JazzHR vs BambooHR: dedicated ATS or HR suite in 2026

100Hires candidate pipeline board sorted by AI Score across hiring stages

JazzHR and BambooHR keep landing on the same small-business shortlist, and they are not even playing the same game.

JazzHR is a dedicated applicant tracking system: recruiting is the whole product. BambooHR is an HR platform where applicant tracking is one module next to payroll, PTO, and onboarding.

So the real question is not which logo wins a feature grid. It is whether hiring or HR operations is the job you are buying software to do.

To settle it, we read 50 current Capterra reviews, both vendors' live pricing pages and help documentation (all pulled July 2026), and dozens of practitioner threads. Here is the short version first.

Quick disclosure before the numbers: 100Hires is our product. It appears in the tables as a reference point and gets its own section, limitations included, near the end.

Ratings come from G2 and Capterra as of July 11, 2026. Prices come from each vendor's public pricing page on the same date. JazzHR shows annual billing only; the BambooHR AI note comes from its own AI compliance FAQ, dated February 2026.

The bottom line: JazzHR wins when recruiting depth per dollar is the goal. BambooHR wins when one system for all of HR matters more than pipeline depth. 100Hires is the pick when you want dedicated-ATS depth plus current-generation AI without enterprise pricing.

Which should you pick at your company stage

Most comparison pages describe buyer personas in prose. A table is faster. Find your row.

Your situation Pick Why
Under 25 employees, hiring a few times a year, no HR system yet BambooHR The $250/mo floor is easier to justify when it replaces an HRIS, PTO tracker, onboarding checklist, and a light ATS in one buy
Small team hiring constantly on a tight budget JazzHR Flat tiers and unlimited users mean the bill tracks your plan, not your headcount
Already on BambooHR and hiring outgrew the module Keep BambooHR, add a dedicated ATS The two integrate; see the integration section before replacing either system
Agency or high-volume hourly hiring A dedicated ATS, chosen carefully Watch JazzHR's per-plan job limits and paid add-ons at volume; BambooHR's module caps out fast
You want AI screening without enterprise pricing 100Hires AI Score runs on every plan, including the $49/mo entry tier
Hiring slowed to a trickle Re-evaluate When hires per quarter drop, an HRIS module may be all you need; check your volume against BLS JOLTS data before renewing anything

About the wider market: in the Reddit threads we read, Greenhouse was mentioned more often than either of these two, and newer tools like Ashby and Breezy come up constantly. Greenhouse is enterprise-priced, so for most small teams the real decision stays right here.

One comparison page we reviewed (written by a CV-screening vendor, so take it with a grain of salt) put the small-team decision rule well: don't buy a full HR suite when the actual bottleneck is screening resumes.

That direction is right. Fix the most expensive bottleneck first.

Can you use JazzHR and BambooHR together?

Yes, and a surprising share of people searching this comparison actually want that answer. The two are official integration partners.

The mechanics, verified from both vendors' documentation in July 2026: the sync runs one way. When you mark a candidate as Hired in JazzHR, it exports the person into a new BambooHR employee record via API. Synced fields are the basics: name, address, phone, email.

Recruiting history stays in JazzHR. BambooHR takes over from onboarding onward.

This is the pattern experienced teams actually run: a dedicated applicant tracking system to attract, screen, and select, then the HRIS for records, onboarding, and payroll.

Two counterweights. You are paying for two systems. And one BambooHR customer reported the contract would not let them keep just the ATS module after moving their HR records elsewhere, so partial usage has limits worth asking about before signing.

JazzHR: what real users say

Where JazzHR shines

Ease of use is the single most repeated compliment across the 25 current Capterra reviews we read and years of G2 feedback. Four of the six most recent reviews land at 4-5 stars, and the recurring theme is a low learning curve for teams where hiring is a part-time duty.

The structural wins are real too. Unlimited users on every plan, which matters when six hiring managers need accounts. Knockout questions that reviewers specifically call out. Posting to over a dozen free job boards in one click, per the current pricing page.

There is track record here as well. The product launched around 2009 as The Resumator and has been renamed twice since, so it has survived more than 15 years in a market where small ATS vendors often disappear or get acquired.

Where JazzHR falls short

The complaints are mostly about money mechanics, not broken features. The add-on economics have crept up: extra job packs now run $49-99 per month, texting starts at $39 per month, and e-signature sits behind higher tiers.

One 2024 reviewer summed her experience as good but pricey.

Billing friction is a repeat pattern. Cancellation requires 30 days' notice, and two separate one-star reviews in different years describe charges continuing after an attempted cancellation.

The AI story has a catch: Talent Fit, JazzHR's resume-scoring feature, is not available on the entry Hero plan at all. You need Plus at $3,480 per year to get it.

And at volume, practitioners describe a workaround tax. One consultant-style estimate in a 2025 thread put it at 6-8 recruiter hours lost per job compared with more automated systems; a 2026 user described deleting screener-failed applicants one captcha at a time.

BambooHR: what real users say

Where BambooHR shines

People genuinely like this platform. Its 5,698 G2 reviews give it a far larger review base than JazzHR's 858, and the suite is the star: customers publicly credit it with consolidating HRIS, payroll, PTO, onboarding, and applicant tracking into one system.

One VP of HR reported saving up to 20 hours a week on applicant tracking and reporting workflows after switching.

The interface is the top theme in the current Capterra reviews we read: modern, easy to use, reliable.

And the hiring module has grown real extras: a dedicated Hiring mobile app, digital offer letters with e-signature, candidate self-scheduling for interviews, and background checks with the first three free.

Where BambooHR falls short as an applicant tracking system

The module has hard ceilings: 5 open jobs on Core, 25 on Pro, 50 on Elite. For a team with steady hiring, the plan you need is dictated by job slots, not HR features.

Here is the tell from the review data: of the 25 current Capterra reviews we read, only two even mention the hiring module. People buy BambooHR for HR operations; recruiting rides along.

On our own demo calls, prospects switching off BambooHR describe the same gaps in the ATS layer: it struggles with candidate volume, resume parsing is thin, and pipeline customization is limited.

Its own recruiter guide frames hiring stages as a status to-do list, which works for occasional hiring and strains past it.

Pricing turbulence is recent and documented. A 2025 plan-restructuring pushed one 15-person company from $240 to about $450 per month, an 87% jump, and set off a wave of churn shopping.

At least one leaver came back within two months after finding nothing matched the suite's value.

Satisfaction data cuts both ways. SoftwareReviews shows BambooHR ahead of JazzHR on every measured dimension, from likelihood to recommend to plan to renew. Crozdesk scores them a dead heat at 89% each. Read both before trusting either.

Feature-by-feature: where each one wins

Pricing model

JazzHR charges flat tiers with unlimited users: $1,000 per year for Hero regardless of headcount. BambooHR charges $250 per month under 25 employees, then $10-25 per employee per month, so the bill grows with the org chart even when hiring doesn't.

Winner: JazzHR for hiring-only budgets; BambooHR when the suite replaces three other tools.

AI in the hiring workflow

JazzHR offers Talent Fit: resume-to-job-description scoring, off by default, English-only, with self-reported accuracy of 92-95% in internal testing. It is gated to Plus and Pro.

BambooHR's own AI compliance FAQ lists four AI features as of February 2026, and none of them touch the hiring module; its AI lives in eNPS summaries and an HR chatbot. Winner: JazzHR for hiring-specific AI.

Pipeline depth

JazzHR offers customizable hiring stages, knockout routing, and bulk actions built for recruiting flow. BambooHR's recruiter guide teaches statuses as an ordered to-do list with bulk templated emails, clean, but a lighter abstraction. Winner: JazzHR.

Reporting

BambooHR includes five stock hiring reports, including candidate-source, funnel, and EEO-style demographic splits, useful for compliance out of the box. JazzHR's visual pipeline reporting goes deeper on upper tiers, though reviewers still name reporting a weak spot.

Winner: BambooHR for compliance basics, JazzHR for pipeline analytics.

Integrations

Different games entirely. JazzHR syndicates to over a dozen free job boards and connects to the usual assessment and background-check partners. BambooHR advertises 150+ integrations spanning the whole HR stack. Winner: depends which stack you are wiring, recruiting or HR.

Getting started

Neither self-serves. JazzHR's free trial is granted after you apply for a demo. BambooHR requires a sales conversation, and one practitioner estimate puts implementation fees around $1,000-2,000, sometimes negotiable.

One founder asked on X for any ATS that skips the sales call; it is a real gap in this pair. Winner: neither.

Pricing breakdown by team size

The two pricing models collide as you grow, and that collision is the comparison. Monthly costs below use each vendor's published July 2026 rates, annual billing.

Team size 100Hires JazzHR BambooHR (Core / Pro / Elite)
10 employees from $49/mo $1,000/yr Hero (about $83/mo effective) $250/mo flat
25 employees from $49/mo $1,000/yr Hero (about $83/mo effective) $250/mo flat
50 employees from $49/mo $1,000/yr Hero or $3,480/yr Plus ($83-290/mo effective) $500 / $850 / $1,250 per month
100 employees from $49/mo $1,000/yr Hero or $3,480/yr Plus ($83-290/mo effective) $1,000 / $1,700 / $2,500 per month

Three caveats. JazzHR figures are the annual-billing sticker prices from its main pricing page; a second staffing-oriented JazzHR page prices Hero higher, so confirm which SKU your quote uses.

Hero caps you around 3 open jobs, so constant hiring usually means Plus at $3,480 per year; Pro runs $5,508 per year and adds offers, e-signature, and custom reports.

BambooHR quotes are negotiable, with bundle and nonprofit discounts published.

Note the crossover. Under 25 employees, BambooHR's floor costs three times JazzHR's Hero, but it covers all of HR. Past 50 employees, per-employee math runs away from every flat-priced dedicated ATS: apples to oranges, priced accordingly.

When neither JazzHR nor BambooHR is the right fit

As disclosed up top, 100Hires is ours. It also did not appear in any of the external channels we analyzed for this keyword. Judge this section accordingly.

Here is the gap both tools leave. If you want current-generation AI in the hiring workflow on an entry plan, JazzHR gates it behind Plus and BambooHR does not ship it at all. If you found this page hoping to sign up and start today, neither lets you.

There is a third pattern from the threads we read: people who need outreach more than tracking. Recruiters spending 6-8 hours a week on manual sourcing want sequencing, texting, and AI search, not another status board.

100Hires workflow pipeline stages with automation rules configured at each hiring step

100Hires was built for those gaps. AI Score reads every resume against your job and scores it on arrival. AI Copilot drafts outreach and answers questions about your pipeline.

Evaluation Forms keep interview feedback structured, and Trackable links show which sourcing channel actually delivers. Jobs post to 13 named boards, and plans start at $49 per month billed annually ($99 month-to-month).

Forbes Advisor currently lists 100Hires as Best for Startups and Small Businesses at 4.8, and it holds 4.8 on G2 (1,353 reviews) and 4.9 on Capterra (1,163 reviews) with Best Value and Best Ease of Use badges for 2026.

The limitations: 100Hires is not an HRIS. There is no payroll and no PTO tracking; hired candidates hand off to BambooHR or Gusto via Zapier. The $49 Start plan caps at 3 open jobs and 1 user.

The 14-day trial takes up to 10 candidates from external job boards and runs AI on a quota; upgrading lifts both. Support is async-first.

If hiring is the bottleneck and AI screening is why you are shopping, start the free trial or book a demo and compare it against both tools in an afternoon.

FAQ

Does BambooHR include an applicant tracking system?

Yes. BambooHR includes an ATS module with open-job limits of 5, 25, or 50 depending on plan, plus offer letters, e-signature, and a hiring mobile app. It suits occasional hiring. Teams hiring constantly usually pair the suite with a dedicated ATS such as JazzHR or 100Hires for deeper pipelines and AI screening.

Is JazzHR cheaper than BambooHR?

For recruiting alone, usually yes. JazzHR's Hero plan is $1,000 per year (about $83 per month) with unlimited users, and BambooHR starts at a $250 per month floor under 25 employees. The catch: BambooHR's price buys HR, payroll modules, and PTO too. For a pure ATS budget, 100Hires starts lower at $49 per month billed annually.

Can you use JazzHR and BambooHR together?

Yes. The official integration exports a candidate marked as Hired in JazzHR into a new BambooHR employee record, syncing basic contact fields one way. 100Hires supports the same handoff pattern into BambooHR or Gusto via Zapier, so a dedicated ATS plus HRIS stack works with either combination.

Does JazzHR or BambooHR have AI for hiring?

JazzHR offers Talent Fit, an AI resume-scoring feature, on its Plus and Pro plans only. BambooHR's official AI features, per its February 2026 compliance FAQ, are HR-side (survey summaries, a chatbot) with none in the hiring module. 100Hires includes AI Score and AI Copilot on every plan, including the entry tier.

Is JazzHR only for recruiting?

Yes, by design. JazzHR's own team has described it as a small-business recruiting tool that deliberately avoids becoming an all-in-one HR system. You pair it with an HRIS for records and payroll. 100Hires takes the same recruiting-only focus with newer AI screening built in.

Should a small business buy an ATS or an HRIS first?

Solve the bleeding bottleneck first. If resumes pile up unscreened and hiring stalls, a dedicated ATS like 100Hires pays off immediately. If records, payroll, and onboarding are the bigger operational problem, start with an HRIS like BambooHR and add recruiting depth when hiring volume demands it.
