Valiant is seeking a skilled Clerk General who has familiarity with the terminology of the office unit. The General Clerk selects appropriate methods from a wide variety of procedures or makes simple adaptations and interpretations of a limited number of substantive guides and manuals. The clerical steps often vary in type or sequence, depending on the task. Selects from alternative methods and refers to problems not solvable by adapting or interpreting substantive guides, manuals, or procedures. The General Clerk chooses among widely varying methods and procedures to process complex transactions; and selects or devises steps necessary to complete assignments.

The General Clerk provides administrative support to a small group of Scientific Review Officers (SRO), a single IRG Chief, and/or a group performing less complex review activities. Carries out straightforward administrative support functions such as database updating, data maintenance, data entry, and office operations support (such as mail delivery, purchasing support, and/or coordinating SRO registrations at conferences) within clearly defined guidelines and by well-established procedures and policies.

The General Clerk follows detailed specific procedures in completing several repetitive clerical steps performed in a prescribed or slightly varied sequence, such as coding and filing documents in an extensive alphabetical file; which could involve simple posting to individual accounts, opening mail, calculating and posting charges to departmental accounts, operating basic office equipment e.g. photocopier, facsimile, multi-line phone/voicemail systems, mailing machines, and minimal computer program. Little or no subject-matter knowledge is required, but the clerk uses his or her judgment in choosing the proper procedure for each task. For petition data received electronically, the General Clerk shall review the data in the electronic record for accuracy and integrity, and make any corrections; perform photo matching, enter additional information as required; and verify date(s), visa classification, and other critical fields as specified. For as long as required, the General Clerk shall also create a physical case folder appropriately labeled and indexed as needed. Some petitions received will be deconstructed, scanned into the appropriate visa processing system, collated, and either returned, destroyed, or filed. May be asked to perform shredding duties using industrial-sized shredding equipment.
