The Physician performs medical assessments(including, but not limited to, annual physicals, quarterly follow-ups, routine/acute care, pre-procedure assessments as needed, admission history and physical) to diagnose medical conditions, prescribe medications, monitor ongoing treatment, and make referral to clinics/hospitals, according to generally accepted professional standards of care. The Physician develops medical treatment plans for clients and shares responsibility for plan implementation by including ancillary clinical disciplines and all care providers, and by relating to the client in a manner which is conducive to bringing about improved physical or mental health. The Physician completes medical records/reports to document medical care provided to the clients in accordance with medical documentation guidelines established by the facility.

The Physician examines and treats facility detainees/inmates to ensure proper injury care, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment and recovery. The Physician is the first point of contact for many patients and as a result must be able to diagnose a wide range of illnesses and injuries. The Physician is also responsible for managing the overall care of the patient and communicating with the specialist or specialists as needed. Manages and evaluates the medical program activities based on industry standards and contractual obligations. Implements all contractually required services.

The Physician in this position demonstrates a high level of expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of the complex responses of individuals, families, or communities with actual or potential health problems, prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort. The Physician will provide both direct patient care on-site as well the supportive preparatory and follow-up work. Each Physician is assigned a core panel of patients but will be available to provide quality care and consultation for all clinical patients under the scope of their training. The Physician also provides other duties or responsibilities as outlined in their contract. The Physician provides comprehensive and professional health care to patients with the highest quality in a cost effective, ethical and humanistic manner.
