Review scheduled cases in advance to provide equipment and supplies appropriate to the procedure
- Anticipate each individual surgeon’s needs by being cognizant of changes and preparing in advance additional equipment, instruments, sutures and other supplies necessary for the procedures across all specialties

Under the direct supervision of a surgeon, registered nurse, or other medical professional, a Surgical Technologist assists with surgeries and participates during surgical intervention procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities 2

Prepares operating room (OR) by gathering supplies, equipment, and surgical instruments.
Opens and places sterile supplies in proper order and place.
Assists with transporting patient to and from surgical unit. Prepares patient for surgery to include positioning patient on operating table and covering patient with sterile drapes.
Assists during surgery including passing instruments and other supplies to the surgeon, holding retractors, cutting sutures, helping count sponges, needle supplies and instruments.
Prepares OR for next scheduled patient by removing linens and trash. Cleans bed, tables, soiled areas, and mops floor. Transports used instruments for reprocessing and sterilization. Ensures instrument sets are identified and accurate count. Completes instrument orders. Initiates repair requisitions for equipment.
Maintains file of procedural information on physician's preference cards and appropriate instrumentation.
- Surgical technologists may fulfill the assistant circulator role based on state law and/or hospital policy.
- Assists in transporting patients to the operating room, helps position the patient on the operating table and prepares the patient for surgery by shaving and disinfecting incision sites. During the procedure, the surgical technologist will assist with obtaining additional supplies that the first scrub surgical technologist needs, such as sponges or suture; assist with counts; replace full suction containers; provide sterile dressings at the end of the procedure; and assist with moving the patient from the operating room table to the stretcher for transport to the recovery room.
- Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.Surgical technologists are members of operating room teams, which include the surgeon(s), anesthesiologist and circulating nurse. Surgical technologists work under the delegatory authority and supervision of the surgeon, unless prohibited by state law or hospital policy.

Experience: 12 months experience in an operating room environment

Complies with policies, procedures and recommended practices pertaining to the use, care, and maintenance of supplies and equipment. Communication, coordination of Care & Orientation: Demonstrates skills in communicating with the patient and/or family/significant other. Cooperates and communicates effectively with other health care team members in order to accomplish unit workload. Establishes and maintains effective communication with supervisor.
