The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) will report to the Chief Executive Officer. The Chief Medical Officer will be a key member of the executive team which sets the overall strategic direction of the Company. The primary role of the Chief Medical Officer will be to provide leadership and direction for all medical activities associated with the Company. These areas will likely include Clinical Development, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Drug Safety, and serve as the face of the Company to the medical community and health authorities. Successful planning and execution in these areas are expected to result in the regulatory approval and commercial success of the Company’s key products.
This is a hands-on role leading a team of five professionals responsible for clinical development and clinical operations activities. Additional responsibilities for Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, and Drug Safety may initially be handled through outside consultants and contractors with the intent to develop an in-house organization as the product portfolio develops. Overall, this individual will be responsible for successful clinical development, regulatory approval, and medical support of the company’s products to drive the success and growth of the Company.
The Chief Medical Officer will have a highly visible role as the medical voice for both the physician and the patient within and outside the Company and act as the Company’s primary medical representative. In this capacity, the Chief Medical Officer will interact with external audiences including healthcare delivery, payers, regulators, healthcare policy, patient groups, and investors. The Chief Medical Officer will also be accountable for developing and executing national medical education programs and opinion leader development.
