Performs all duties required in an accurate, efficient, professional, and confident manner.

Requirements & Skills 1

Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; three years apprenticeship on-the-job training or one to two years related experience and/or training; equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, patients, doctors, and the general public.
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or team members of the organization.

Broad knowledge and experience in merchandising and dealing with vendors to ensure quality and service goals are met. Experience in an urban, multicultural healthcare environment.

- Ability to learn and use computer office automation systems within a three-month timeframe.

The Optician will provide vision screenings, eye examinations, and safety eyewear recommendations. Assist with vision protection program. Examining and analyzing the eye for diseases and defects and prescribing correctional lenses or exercises. Determines eye-hazardous jobs and assists in the supervision of eye protection programs.

Diagnose sight problems, such as nearsightedness or farsightedness, and eye diseases, such as glaucoma
Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and medications
Provide treatments such as vision therapy or low-vision rehabilitation
Provide pre-and postoperative care to patients undergoing eye surgery—for example, examining a patient’s eyes the day after surgery
