This position involves analyzing pedigrees for possible cancer predisposition syndromes, assessing risk for specific types of cancer, interpreting information, coordinating genetic testing, identifying at-risk family members, reviewing available options for prevention and surveillance and making appropriate referrals.

The Laboratory is seeking a motivated Genetic Counselor to join our diagnosis team to serve as the primary liaison in communication with health care providers, laboratory personnel, the authorization and billing team, and payers when necessary, to facilitate and streamline the process of genetic testing. This position will provide genetic testing case management by working closely with laboratory directors, internal and external providers, laboratory personnel, as well as the business team of the laboratory. It will support appropriate test utilization by selecting appropriate gene lists for analysis and submitting test details or obtaining 3rd party payer authorization for testing. The Genetic Counselor will support our clinical testing operations by serving as the primary liaison in communicating with ordering providers to discuss all aspects of genetic testing including results. Another aspect of the position is to work with billing team and payers as needed in support of successful billing and collection. The position will also involve gene curation, maintaining and updating gene lists, and maintain the internal variant data base. Opportunity for variant interpretation of sequencing data in collaboration with laboratory personnel will also be available. There will also be opportunities for contributing to genomic research.
