Performs complex repairs on vehicles: gathers information from vehicle operator reports, fault codes and other diagnostic data; troubleshoots and diagnoses problems; identifies items needing repair; completes required repairs; and ensures vehicle operation and performance is within specified limits.

Determines materials required for projects: researches codes, parts, fluid specifications, tire pressures, repair methods, maintenance requirements and related information; gathers and/or picks up equipment, parts, and supplies; assists in monitoring inventory levels of parts, equipment, tools, or supplies; and initiates requests for new or replacement materials.
Performs state, taxi, and for-hire vehicle inspections: ensures safety and operability of vehicles in compliance with applicable regulations and standards; and prepares and maintains related documentation.
- Prepares and maintains vehicle maintenance logs and records: enters work activities, such as parts used and time spent on maintenance, into computer database.
- Operates or uses various machinery, equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies to complete work assignments, such as hand and power tools, a/c refrigerant machine, press, drill, welder, sand blaster, vehicle lift, forklift, tire machine and balancer, bandsaw, parts washer, basic mechanics tool kit and/or vehicle-specific maintenance tool sets.
- Performs related duties in support of department operations: performs routine body repairs, such as repairing or replacing fenders, bumpers, grills, etc.; participates in on-call rotation; may perform maintenance and repair activities in the field; picks-up and delivers parts and vehicles; coordinates repairs with vendors or other duties as assigned.

Perform a wide variety of metallurgical testing, characterization, and analysis (e.g., sample cutting and preparation, metallography, hardness testing, optical and electron microscopy, failure analysis, etc.).
Conduct corrosion evaluations of metals and coatings at the coupon, component, and vehicle level (e.g., salt fog chamber testing, electrochemical testing, environmental exposure testing, etc.).
Independently and accurately complete tests, stratify results and issue reports for approval. Create and manage ‘test incident’ documentation to facilitate and track corrective actions.
Management of laboratory assets, ensuring all equipment is maintained, calibrated, and serviced.
- Develop, author, and ensure conformance to laboratory standard operating procedures.
- Support engineering staff in the root cause analysis of test failures and failure analysis workstreams.

Practical knowledge and working experience within a metallurgical, characterization, or environmental testing lab, including a basic understanding of metals and associated testing.
Experience operating metallurgical prep and analysis equipment (e.g., grinders, polishers, optical microscopes, etc.) is preferred. Experience working with corrosion and other environmental chambers is a plus, as is having experience repairing and tearing down vehicles (e.g., auto/mechanic shop).
Familiarity with materials-centric test standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO, SAE).
Experience working with hazardous materials, with a willingness to exhibit and promote health and safety across the team.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills in order to establish effective working relationships.
