Why this role matters

Keep freight moving and customers confident. As our mobile trailer expert, you’ll diagnose, maintain, and repair semi-trailers and related equipment wherever they are—safely, efficiently, and with great communication.

What you’ll do

  • Operate a mobile repair vehicle to perform on-site PMs, diagnostics, and repairs.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring devices (calipers, etc.).
  • Inspect electrical and air systems; repair faults to restore reliability.
  • Complete all preventive maintenance and company-required inspections.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Follow repair manuals and documented procedures; execute repairs as specified.
  • Run and care for power equipment with safety top of mind.
  • Request parts with prior authorization; install new or reconditioned components.
  • Function-test equipment post-repair to confirm proper operation.
  • Finish all documentation and work orders accurately.
  • Assist fellow maintenance staff when needed and contribute to team goals.
  • Define the problem, outline an action plan, and follow checklists and protocols.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, safe workspace; keep tools and equipment in top shape.
  • Handle shop upkeep (sweeping, cleaning, trash removal) as part of shared ownership.
  • Follow all safety rules, PPE requirements, and practical safe-work practices.
  • Balance independent fieldwork with collaborative teamwork.
  • Take on other responsibilities as assigned.

What you bring

  • Valid driver’s license and a clear Motor Vehicle Report per our Driver Fleet Policy; must be insurable under DTR’s carrier (driving record and age requirements apply).
  • Comfort reading and writing in English for documentation and adherence to driving laws and signage.
  • 1–2 years of mechanical experience (equivalent experience considered). ASE certifications preferred but not required.
  • Mechanical aptitude plus basic math competency.
  • Own tools and PPE: safety glasses, steel-toed shoes, hearing protection.

Mandatory screening

Must pass pre-employment knowledge/skill test, background check (10-year), and drug/medical physical exam.

Physical expectations

  • Lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs occasionally, 50 lbs frequently, and 20 lbs constantly.
  • Regular standing, walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, balancing, kneeling, and crawling.
  • Frequent hand use for grasping, typing, and tool operation.
  • Adequate speech, hearing, and vision for inspections and safe equipment use.

Where you’ll work

Shop environment—indoors and outdoors—with potential exposure to:

  • Non-climate-controlled temperatures
  • Dirt, dust, soot, fumes, airborne particles
  • Moving mechanical parts, electrical equipment
  • Chemicals and limited ventilation
  • Heights, confined spaces, loud noise
  • PPE and safety protocols are mandatory.
