GTAW/FCAW Pipe Welding Specialist

GTAW/FCAW Pipe Welding Specialist

You’re the welder others call when a joint is tricky, the position is awkward, and the tolerance is tight. Join a team that values craftsmanship and gives you the space to do your best work on stainless and carbon—pipe to structural, assemblies to machinery.

Impact of the role

As a core contributor on our fabrication floor, you’ll own projects from fit-up through final inspection, selecting the right process (GTAW first, FCAW when needed) and maintaining stringent quality and safety standards while meeting production goals.

Core responsibilities

  • Perform TIG/GTAW welding on stainless and carbon steel across pipe, tubing, structural components, machinery, and fabricated assemblies.
  • Use Flux Core (FCAW) processes as production and application needs dictate.
  • Weld in all positions, including flat, horizontal, vertical, overhead, and 6G.
  • Set up, operate, and tune TIG and Flux Core equipment: amperage, filler/wire, tungsten, shielding gas, and technique.
  • Read and apply blueprints, drawings, weld symbols, and specifications with precise attention to dimensions and tolerances.
  • Fit, align, position, and tack components; perform pipe and structural fabrication to print.
  • Measure accurately with calipers, tape measures, squares, levels, straightedges, and other precision tools.
  • Manage heat input to prevent warping and distortion; grind, clean, prep, and finish welds.
  • Inspect completed work for appearance, penetration, defects, and adherence to spec.
  • Operate standard fabrication tools; maintain welding equipment and escalate issues to leadership.
  • Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area while collaborating effectively with the team.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of TIG/GTAW welding experience.
  • Proven TIG work on stainless and carbon steel.
  • Flux Core (FCAW) welding experience is required.
  • Pipe and/or fabricated metal welding experience; capable of 6G welding.
  • Strong blueprint reading and weld symbol interpretation.
  • Background in fitting, fabrication, layout, and assembly.
  • Comfort with specs, tolerances, and quality requirements.
  • Hands-on knowledge of welding equipment, hand and power tools; accurate measurement skills.
  • Detail-oriented with solid communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a production team; open to overtime or occasional weekends.

Weld test requirement

Candidates must pass both TIG assessments:

  • 2-inch Schedule 160 carbon steel pipe – TIG, 6G position
  • ¼-inch Schedule 80 carbon steel pipe – TIG, 6G position

Preferred experience

  • TIG on 304/316 stainless and thin-gauge stainless.
  • Carbon steel pipe welding; additional FCAW experience.
  • MIG/GMAW capability alongside TIG and Flux Core.
  • Sanitary/food-grade, industrial, or precision fabrication work.
  • Pipe fitting and fabrication proficiency.
  • Experience in manufacturing/industrial welding using detailed fabrication drawings and specs.

Physical requirements & environment

  • Stand for long periods; frequently walk, bend, kneel, crawl, reach, and work in varied positions.
  • Operate in a manufacturing setting with moderate to high noise.
  • Frequently lift/move materials up to 60 pounds.
  • Work safely around welding equipment, hot work, metal components, sparks, heat, and fumes.
  • Use proper PPE and follow all safety protocols.
