L&W Recruiting, on behalf of a well‑established Mid‑Atlantic litigation defense firm, seeks a Senior Insurance Defense Attorney to join the Lancaster, PA office. The firm values trial‑ready advocacy, early case assessment, and efficient, client‑focused resolution. This senior role is suited to an experienced litigator who can manage complex matters independently, provide strategic direction, and mentor more junior attorneys while contributing to a collegial, team‑oriented practice.
Position overview:
- Lead and manage a docket of insurance defense matters from intake through resolution, taking primary responsibility for case strategy, client communications, and outcomes.
- Develop and implement resolution strategies tailored to case circumstances, including dispositive motion practice, negotiation, ADR, settlement, and trial preparation.
- Prepare and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and other court filings with precision and timeliness.
- Conduct and defend depositions; prepare witnesses and experts for testimony; participate in arbitrations, hearings, and trials as required.
- Supervise and mentor associates and paralegals, delegate tasks appropriately, and provide constructive feedback to support professional development and quality control.
- Manage client and carrier relationships, including regular status updates, budgeting, and matter forecasting. Maintain organized case files, calendaring, and adherence to firm metrics for efficiency and outcomes.
- Contribute to firmwide litigation strategy, participate in quality‑review processes, and promote a trial‑ready culture through focused discovery and issue‑driven preparation.
Required qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) and active license to practice law in Pennsylvania.
- Minimum of six (6) years of insurance defense litigation experience; candidates with eight (8) or more years and demonstrable senior‑level responsibility are strongly preferred.
- Proven litigation skills, including depositions, motion drafting and practice, courtroom advocacy, and trial preparation.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex caseloads independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication, client‑management, organizational, and time‑management skills.
- Commitment to professional ethics, client service, and meeting calendaring and procedural deadlines.
Preferred qualifications:
- Significant trial experience and a record of favorable pretrial and trial outcomes in complex matters.
- Experience supervising or mentoring junior attorneys and managing team workflows.
- Familiarity with insurance coverage issues, bad faith defense, subrogation, and related complex insurance matters.
- Experience using data‑driven case management tools and working with metrics to monitor file cycle time, fees, costs, and outcomes.
- Portable book of business is welcome but not required.
