Material Handling Controls Commissioning Technician

Role Overview

Join our field team as a commissioning expert for automated material handling and conveyor systems. You’ll be on the road full-time, bringing complex designs to life at customer facilities across North America and supporting extended assignments throughout the U.S.

A Day in the Life

You arrive on site, sync up with electrical installers and the Controls Engineering team, and get to work transforming drawings and a Description of Operation into a functioning system. You load emulated PLC programs, perform static functional testing, and begin meticulous I/O and device-level checkout and validation. When a PLC, field device, or network repeater misbehaves, you diagnose it quickly and resolve it. You verify communications on networks such as Ethernet IP, Device Net, Control Net, Profi-bus, AS-I, and CAN, then document everything and turn over validated subsystems with the required checklists. Before you leave for the day, you submit clear daily progress notes—and a weekly summary at project milestones—highlighting accomplishments and exceptions.
