CNC Machinist

Position Summary

Responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring manual and/or CNC machining equipment to produce precision metal components in accordance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and quality standards. This role may involve CNC mills, lathes, presses, brakes, or other fabrication equipment depending on shop needs.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate CNC and/or manual machining equipment to produce parts to specification

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, setup sheets, and work orders

  • Select and install tooling, fixtures, and workholding as required

  • Load programs, adjust offsets, and monitor machine operation for accuracy and quality

  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections using precision measuring tools

  • Conduct secondary operations such as deburring, drilling, tapping, or minor finishing

  • Make minor program edits or machine adjustments as needed (where applicable)

  • Troubleshoot machining or setup issues to minimize scrap and downtime

  • Maintain accurate production and quality documentation

  • Perform basic machine maintenance (oiling, cleaning, tool changes)

  • Follow all safety, quality, and housekeeping standards

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience operating CNC and/or fabrication machinery (mills, lathes, presses, brakes, etc.)

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions

  • Working knowledge of measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, squares, and indicators

  • Understanding of machining processes, tolerances, and material behavior

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a production team

Preferred Skills (Role-Dependent)

  • CNC setup experience and tool offset adjustments

  • G-code or conversational controls (e.g., Mazatrol)

  • Experience with CAD/CAM or CNC programming software

  • Multi-axis machining experience

  • Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement exposure

  • Ability to supply personal hand tools (where required by shop)

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Manufacturing environment with exposure to machinery, noise, and shop materials

  • Standing, walking, bending, and reaching throughout shift

  • Ability to lift up to 40–50 lbs as needed

  • Use of required personal protective equipment (PPE)

Employment Details

  • Full-time, onsite position

  • Shift availability may include day or night shift

  • Compensation and title commensurate with experience level
