PLC Controls Engineer

Position Summary
We are seeking a highly skilled PLC Controls Engineer to join out clients engineering team within an industrial machinery manufacturing environment. This role is responsible for the design, programming, integration, and commissioning of control systems for custom industrial equipment and machinery. The ideal candidate will have strong experience with PLC programming, HMI development, VFD configuration, electrical schematics, and system integration. This position plays a critical role in delivering reliable, high-performance automated systems to customers across various industrial markets.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop control systems for industrial machinery and automated equipment
- Program PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or equivalent platforms)
- Develop and configure HMI applications for machine interface and diagnostics
- Configure and commission VFDs and motor control systems
- Create and review electrical schematics, loop drawings, and panel layouts
- Perform I/O mapping and system integration between PLCs, HMIs, drives, and field devices
- Develop control narratives and functional specifications
- Conduct system testing, debugging, and troubleshooting during build and commissioning phases
- Support factory acceptance testing (FAT) and site acceptance testing (SAT)
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and project engineering teams to ensure seamless system integration
- Provide technical support during equipment installation and startup (some travel may be required)
- Maintain documentation for control systems and revisions
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in PLC programming and industrial controls
- Experience designing and programming control systems for industrial machinery
- Hands-on experience with PLC platforms such as Allen-Bradley (Rockwell), Siemens, or similar
- Experience developing HMIs (FactoryTalk, WinCC, or similar platforms)
- Knowledge of VFD setup and motor control integration
- Ability to read and create electrical schematics and loop drawings
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
- Experience with system integration and commissioning
