Industrial Automation Controls Engineer — Steel Mill Systems

We are a local controls integrator and a leader in our market. As we expand, we’re adding an experienced Controls Engineer to deliver design–build automation projects across the steel industry.

A day in the life

  • Architect and program PLC solutions on Allen‑Bradley and Siemens platforms for new and upgraded lines.
  • Develop operator‑friendly HMI applications and touch‑screen interfaces.
  • Configure and commission drive systems from ABB, Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, and others.
  • Design AC and DC drive systems that meet demanding performance specs.
  • Engineer and program single‑ and multi‑axis servo motion; NIDEC servo experience is a plus.
  • Create and update hardware layouts and schematics using AutoCAD; apply hands‑on CAD skills to ensure build accuracy.
  • Lead project management tasks: scope, schedule, vendor coordination, and on‑site commissioning.
  • Travel to customer sites as needed for installation, testing, and start‑up (approximately 25%+).

What you’ll bring

  • BSEE or BSET.
  • 3+ years of experience delivering machine control projects.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with PLCs and development of touch‑screen programs (HMI).
  • Hands‑on CAD capability for hardware layout and documentation; working knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Clear, professional communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with clients and teammates.
