Market Strategy and Intelligence Manager, Advanced Materials (Non-Automotive)

Overview

Lead the strategy engine behind a diversified, non-automotive portfolio that spans sealants, adhesives, and advanced composites. You will identify where to play, how to win, and how to scale—translating market signals into growth plans, partnerships, and new business models across sectors such as building and construction, sporting goods, industrial, marine, medical equipment, infrastructure, aerospace, and defense.

Reports to: Director of Business Development

A day in the life

  • Scan emerging technologies and competitive moves, then shape segment roadmaps for priority non-automotive markets.
  • Bridge R&D and commercial teams to inject voice-of-customer into pipeline, partnerships, and innovation bets.
  • Lead business intelligence programs—turning data into positioning, pricing, and innovation strategies.
  • Partner with finance and legal to model business cases, assess strategic fit, and plan integration for new ventures, partnerships, and M&A opportunities.
  • Update regional and global leaders on Americas intelligence programs and maintain all related corporate development and diversification reporting systems.

Key focus areas

Strategic Planning & Market Development

  • Identify, evaluate, and prioritize markets, technologies, and trends to inform long-range direction.
  • Build strategic growth plans and segment roadmaps across focus non-automotive arenas (building and construction, sporting goods, industrial, marine, medical equipment, infrastructure, aerospace, defense).
  • Support corporate development through market scanning, target identification, and partnership/M&A due diligence.
  • Collaborate with finance and legal for business case modeling, strategic fit analyses, and integration planning.
  • Serve as the conduit between commercial teams and R&D to ensure market feedback drives decisions.

Business Intelligence

  • Own BI initiatives, converting insights into actionable strategies for positioning, pricing, and innovation.
  • Define research needs and manage third-party vendors to scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Regularly brief regional and global management on progress and outcomes for the Americas.
  • Keep corporate development, BI, and diversification reporting systems current.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, or chemistry required; Master’s in Marketing, Business Administration, or Finance preferred.
  • Background in strategy, marketing, or business development within advanced materials, chemicals, or manufacturing.
  • Experience in one or more of the following industries: Aerospace, Industrial, or Sporting Goods.
  • Working knowledge of adhesives, sealants, composites, or related engineered materials.
  • Proven wins in non-automotive markets (building and construction, sporting goods, industrial, marine, medical equipment, infrastructure, aerospace, defense).
  • Exceptional analytical, communication, and project leadership skills; proven ability to influence across functions and levels.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with curiosity for emerging technologies and markets.
  • Strength in synthesizing complexity into clear strategies and executable action plans.
  • Fluency with tools such as SWOT, Porter’s Five Forces, Business Model Canvas, and M&A frameworks.
  • Comfort operating in matrixed organizations across technical and commercial domains.
  • Proactive collaborator with relationship-building and negotiating skills; able to influence customer decisions.
  • Detail orientation, financial acumen, problem-solving capability, and willingness to travel.
