NC Programmer — Process Development & Fixture Design

The challenge

Picture this: a tight-tolerance component arrives with demanding surface finishes and a short lead time. You dive into the print, capture every requirement, and architect a process. Fixtures are modeled and detailed, toolpaths crafted for 5-axis, and the plan is documented as standard work. On the floor, you iterate with machinists, tweak the post, edit G-code, and validate with inspection tools—shipping on time, first article approved.

Your mission

  • Determine customer part requirements and convert them into scalable machining processes
  • Collaborate with production engineering to design/document fixtures and procedures
  • Program multi-axis milling (vertical/horizontal), turning, and mill-turn equipment
  • Edit and optimize G-code at the machine when necessary
  • Design custom tooling/fixturing and define cutting tool strategies
  • Establish process controls; produce clear, complete documentation and standard work
  • Shepherd programs from CAM through production to meet customer deadlines
  • Use monitoring and measuring equipment to confirm dimensional accuracy

What you’ll need to succeed

  • At least 5 years of CNC experience in a regulated environment (aerospace, automotive, medical, etc.)
  • MasterCAM and Hypermill proficiency (preferred)
  • Strong SolidWorks skills for modeling and fixture design (strongly preferred)
  • Ability to read/interpret prints and apply GD&T
  • Comfortable editing G-code and working hands-on with CNC machines
  • Experience with measuring tools, handheld tools, and power tools
  • Proficiency with MS Office

Tech landscape

  • 3-, 4-, 5-axis milling (vertical & horizontal), turning, mill-turn
  • Machines & technologies you'll use: CNC Mill (5+ axis VMC)
