Defense Counsel – Insurance & Civil Litigation (Philadelphia)

L&W Recruiting is working on a confidential search for a defense litigation attorney to join a well-established firm in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The firm has a strong foothold in the carrier community and handles a sophisticated mix of insurance defense matters across the greater Philadelphia area and throughout the state.

This is an opportunity for a litigation attorney who wants to do substantive defense work — depositions, motion practice, trials — with direct client contact and real autonomy over their docket. The firm is selective but collegial, and attorneys here are given the tools and trust to handle their matters without unnecessary oversight.

About the Practice:

The firm's defense practice covers a wide spectrum including commercial vehicle and transportation cases, general liability, product liability, and professional negligence. Attorneys regularly appear in Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and federal district courts, and trial-readiness is expected and rewarded here.

Core Responsibilities:

• Take ownership of a varied defense docket from early case assessment through trial or resolution
• Draft dispositive motions, coverage letters, demand responses, and mediation submissions
• Conduct and defend depositions across a range of matter types and complexity levels
• Appear in court for pre-trial conferences, oral argument, arbitration, and jury trials
• Maintain ongoing communication with carrier clients and claims representatives on litigation strategy, exposure, and reserve recommendations

What We're Looking For:

• Pennsylvania bar license in good standing; New Jersey admission is a meaningful plus
• 2–7 years of experience in insurance defense, civil defense, or related litigation practice
• Demonstrated motion practice and deposition experience
• Courtroom experience — hearings, arbitrations, or trials
• Professional, client-focused communicator who can handle direct carrier relationships
