Commissioning & Start-Up (CSU) Lead – Industrial Facilities

  • Houston, TX
  • 60 - 65 USD Hourly

Role Snapshot

Location: Houston, TX | Duration: 12 Months

Step into a day where you bring complex industrial systems online. As our Commissioning & Start-Up (CSU) Lead, you’ll orchestrate activities that move projects from construction to safe, reliable operation—planning the work, managing budgets and punch-list deficiencies, and coordinating technicians, engineers, contractors, and stakeholders on site.

A Day in the Life

  • Kick off with a commissioning plan review to confirm readiness of rotating and static equipment and align the field team on safety protocols (permitting, Lock-Out-Tag-Out, Electrical Safety).
  • Head to the field to lead hands-on commissioning tasks—drawing on prior technician/engineer experience and the ability to self-commission when needed.
  • Work shoulder-to-shoulder with project teams, construction, and operations to surface technical issues, triage root causes, and implement solutions that protect reliability and operability.
  • Track budgets and deficiencies, prioritize work-off plans, and communicate progress and risks to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Guide and influence a specialized commissioning group and field services contractors—setting expectations, nurturing strong performance, and sustaining productive relationships.

What You’ll Tackle

  • Own coordination of project commissioning and start-up deliverables to ensure equipment is ready for operation.
  • Provide rapid technical support throughout the commissioning phase, resolving issues with practical, field-tested solutions.
  • Apply knowledge of industry codes and standards: API, NEC, CEC, CSA Z662, NFPA 11, etc.

What You Bring

  • Technical College Degree/Diploma.
  • At least 10 years of technical experience, including hands-on work with rotating and static equipment.
  • Commissioning experience in the oil & gas sector is an asset.
  • Proven ability to lead and coordinate diverse teams—project personnel, stakeholders, customers, and contractors.
  • Strong command of safety practices, including permitting, Lock-Out-Tag-Out, and Electrical Safety.
