Step into a hands-on role where your precision keeps our injection molds running at their best. As the Injection Mold Tooling Maintenance Technician, you’ll ensure molds are ready for production through preventive care, quick-turn repairs, and meticulous documentation. You’ll partner closely with process technicians, mold setters, and engineers to resolve tooling issues and elevate part quality.

A day in the life

You start your shift by reviewing the maintenance schedule and pulling molds from storage. You clean and inspect each tool, noting wear on cores and cavities. If you spot a damaged slide or a lifter that’s sticking, you disassemble the tool, perform the repair, polish critical surfaces, verify alignment, and reassemble with care. Before returning the mold to the press, you record every step and collaborate with the team to trial the tool and qualify production.

What you’ll do

• Execute preventive, corrective, and routine maintenance on injection molds to keep them production-ready.
• Diagnose and repair worn or damaged components, including cavities, cores, slides, lifters, and ejector systems.
• Disassemble and reassemble molds with tight tolerances to ensure proper operation and alignment.
• Maintain accurate, detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and part replacements.
• Work with process technicians, mold setters, and engineers to resolve tooling concerns that affect part quality or throughput.
• Spot recurring problems and recommend durable, long-term fixes.
• Use grinders, polishing tools, hand tools, micrometers, and similar equipment for repair and finishing tasks.
• Keep mold storage areas orderly and follow correct handling and staging procedures.
• Support mold trials and help qualify new or refurbished tools.
• Follow all safety procedures and promptly report equipment issues or unsafe conditions.

Training and safety readiness

• Understand and adhere to all departmental safety rules.
• Read and apply Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
• Follow applicable ISO sections and procedures relevant to the role.

What you bring

• High school diploma or GED (required); technical training or certification in mold/tooling repair or machining (preferred).
• 5+ years of experience in mold maintenance or repair within a plastics injection molding environment.
• Deep knowledge of mold construction: cooling circuits, hot runner systems, ejector mechanisms, and venting.
• Ability to interpret blueprints, CAD drawings, and toolroom schematics.
• Hands-on familiarity with mills, lathes, surface grinders, and polishing tools.
• Strong organizational habits and thorough documentation practices.
• Comfort lifting heavy components and working in a shop setting; willingness to work overtime as needed.

• Physical Demands: Standing, sitting, and walking (up to continuously); frequent speaking/verbal communication; frequent bending/stooping; frequent neck and torso twisting; frequent reaching, holding, grasping, pushing, and pulling; frequent lifting/carrying of raw material, finished product, tools, and machinery up to 50 pounds.
• Working Conditions: Primarily indoors, with temperatures that may reflect outdoor seasonal conditions.
