Senior Backend Engineer

About the Role

A fast-growing, pre-Series A AI SaaS company focused on productivity, automation, and content creation tools for the DACH region is looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join their Berlin-based team. You'll play a key role in scaling a GDPR-compliant AI platform used by enterprises and hundreds of thousands of individual users across Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

What You'll Do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs powering an AI-driven productivity and content creation platform
• Architect and evolve microservices infrastructure to support growing user demand
• Implement and uphold privacy-by-design principles, ensuring full GDPR/DSGVO compliance across all systems
• Collaborate closely with product, frontend, and ML teams to ship high-quality features
• Contribute to technical decision-making and help define backend engineering best practices
• Support the integration and scaling of AI-powered features including automation workflows, content generation, and knowledge management tools

What We're Looking For

Required:

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience at a senior level
• Proven track record designing and maintaining scalable backend services and RESTful APIs
• Strong experience with microservices architecture
• Proficiency in at least one major backend language such as Python, Node.js, Go, or Java
• Hands-on experience with GDPR/data privacy compliance and privacy-by-design in production systems
• Experience building or scaling AI-powered productivity, automation, or content creation platforms
• Legal right to work in Germany — visa sponsorship is not available
• Willingness to work onsite in Berlin, Germany

Nice to Have:

• Familiarity with LLM integrations and AI workflow orchestration
• Experience working in the DACH market or with German data protection regulations
• Background at a high-growth SaaS or AI startup

Compensation & Benefits

• Salary range: $70,000 – $90,000 USD annually
