Sheet Metal Fitter–Welder (MIG Fabrication)

Sheet Metal Fitter–Welder (MIG Fabrication)

Schedule: Weekends, Friday–Sunday, 6:00am–6:30pm

Your day, end to end

When you clock in Friday morning, you’ll open a set of mechanical drawings, map out weld locations, and plan your sequence so every dimension lands inside tolerance. You’ll fit, tack, and run clean beads on both mild and stainless sheet metal, switching processes and dialing in parameters as needed. Between passes, you’ll verify dimensions, adjust fixtures, and document what you see. You’ll finish by blending, grinding, and buffing to meet appearance specs—then stage your work so the next operations team can keep moving.

What you’ll handle

  • MIG welding of mild and stainless steel, including spray transfer
  • Basic fitting, coping, and positioning/alignment layout
  • Machine setup and parameter adjustments per department manuals; fine-tune voltage
  • Material removal and finishing using grinding and sheet metal buffing
  • Reading and interpreting engineered drawings; inspecting parts to basic and complex dimensions
  • Evaluating weld beads for acceptable attributes and repairing improper welds
  • Identifying materials (copper types, stainless grades, etc.)
  • Knowledge of flux core and shielded wire processes
  • Tack and stud welding; squaring parts accurately
  • Torch cutting and arc gouging

What sets you up for success

  • 1–2 years of relevant welding/fabrication experience
  • Clear English communication (written and verbal); effective teamwork
  • Comfort with hot work outside the department when needed
  • Finish grinding and surface finishing to cosmetic specifications
  • Understanding fixtures in your area and how products fit into the larger build
  • Working knowledge of AWS charts/steel tables and welding symbols
  • Use of core tools: tape measure, squares, clamps, fillet gauge, angle finder, etc.
  • Convert decimals to fractions using a conversion chart with confidence
  • Awareness and adherence to Lock Out Tag Out procedures
  • Consistent compliance with company operating procedures, safety rules, and ISO requirements

Who you’ll work with

Report to the Department Supervisor and collaborate daily with Machine Operators, Welders, Painters, Material Handlers, Leadpersons, and Supervisors. External interactions: N/A.
