Your day at a glance
You start your shift with a quick review of overnight CMMS entries, then head to the floor. A press is down: you trace the fault, isolate the issue in the controls, and bring it back online. Between calls, you refine preventive tasks with the Planner/Scheduler and coach a junior tech on precision alignment. Before lunch, you fabricate a small part on the lathe, then log trend data from predictive sensors to advise the team on an upcoming overhaul. You finish the day by updating histories, tidying to 5S, and sharing continuous improvement wins.
What you'll tackle
- Own expert-level corrective and preventive maintenance for a variety of industrial assets—diagnose root causes, adjust and calibrate control instruments, repair/replace components, and verify performance through electrical and mechanical testing.
- Disassemble equipment to access defective parts; inspect for wear or imperfections; recondition machine tools as needed.
- Source parts and supplies; evaluate alternatives to drive reliability and cost improvements.
- Independently execute maintenance work to industry standards while partnering with the Planner/Scheduler to optimize PM strategies.
- Set up and operate shop equipment (lathe, drill press, grinder, other metalworking tools); perform welding when required.
- Champion 5S and housekeeping; lead and participate in CI initiatives that deliver process, results, and cost savings.
- Mentor lower-level technicians and provide technical leadership on projects and training activities.
- Troubleshoot complex control systems, resolving software, hardware, and configuration issues.
- Leverage predictive maintenance technologies to capture and trend equipment performance data; provide recommendations based on insights.
- Maintain accurate records, review CMMS history, and analyze data for reliability actions.
- Engage in on-the-job learning and self-study to continue growing your expertise.
- Practice rigorous safety—follow all policies, procedures, and instructions with strong situational awareness.
What you bring
- High school diploma or GED.
- Associate degree (technical) and 5+ years in a relevant industry, or 7+ years of directly related industry experience.
- Hands-on experience with predictive technologies, precision alignment, and general process-equipment maintenance.
- Solid understanding of electrical, mechanical, fluid power, and controls; able to analyze issues, develop options, and complete quality repairs.
- Proficiency with basic and specialized hand/tools.
- Background in vibration analysis or laser interferometer operations, precision alignments, and upkeep of process equipment.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Physical demands and work environment
Regularly standing and walking; frequent use of hands and arms; climbing or balancing (ladder/lift) and working in confined spaces; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and clear communication/hearing. Occasional sitting. Ability to lift and move 50+ lbs. Frequent close and color vision use. Exposure at times to outdoor conditions and electrical hazards. Factory setting, typically very loud, with possible exposure to hazardous materials and greasy/slippery floors.
