Railcar Mechanical Assembly Technician – High‑Speed Train Systems

  • Horseheads, NY
  • 20 - 25 USD Hourly

Build America’s next chapter in high‑speed rail

For more than 160 years, Siemens has helped move people and goods across the United States. In Horseheads, NY, we are launching a new, nearly 300,000-square-foot manufacturing facility that will create ~300 skilled jobs and produce the first high‑speed trains built in the U.S.

Step into a fast-paced production environment where safety, precision, and quality drive everything. As a Mechanical Assembler, you’ll bring engineering drawings to life—one pneumatic line, bracket, and fastener at a time.

A day in the life

You arrive, gear up with PPE, and review your build plan: drawings, bills of materials, and work instructions. You stage components, verify specs, and begin assembling mechanical and pneumatic systems. By mid‑morning you’re routing stainless-steel tubing and securing fittings; after lunch you’re clocking labor hours, updating quality documentation, and walking a teammate through a tricky assembly technique. You finish the shift by checking your work against standards and preparing the next station to keep production on schedule.

What you’ll do

  • Assemble mechanical and pneumatic piping systems to engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Interpret assembly drawings, BOMs, and technical documentation to perform accurate builds.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely; obtain/maintain required certifications for crane, forklift, and fall protection as needed.
  • Complete work orders, quality records, and timekeeping with accuracy.
  • Meet company workmanship standards and achieve schedule, quality, and labor targets with limited supervision.
  • Share best practices and explain procedures to teammates to elevate the line.
  • Model safe work habits, wear required PPE, and help maintain a healthy, hazard‑aware environment.

What you’ll bring

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Basic English proficiency for reading instructions and clear verbal communication.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand instructions, memos, and technical documents.
  • General mechanical/technical aptitude.
  • Self‑starter who can work independently and thrive in small teams.

It’s a plus if you have

  • Comfort with metric measurements.
  • 3–5 years assembling heavy vehicles or equipment (e.g., trucks, military equipment, aircraft, ships).
  • Knowledge of pneumatic piping schematics.
  • Experience cutting, bending, and soldering stainless‑steel tubing and using related connection methods.

Physical demands

  • Frequent walking; reaching; stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
  • Regular climbing of stairs, steps, and ladders.
  • Work from elevated platforms as needed.
  • Perform overhead tasks.
  • Lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Visual acuity for close and distance work, color and peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus.
  • Comfort working in non‑climate‑controlled areas and, when required, in inclement weather.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.

Pay and benefits

$21.5/hr. Actual pay may vary based on budget, experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

  • PTO and holiday pay starting day 1
  • 401(k) with 6% company match
  • Health, Dental, Vision, HSA/FSA, and Commuter Benefits from day 1
  • Opportunities to solve meaningful challenges and shape U.S. rail
