Large-Scale Electromechanical Projects Manager (Hydropower)

Large-Scale Electromechanical Projects Manager (Hydropower)

What a typical week looks like

You’ll kick off by pressure-testing an integrated schedule that spans engineering, sourcing, shop fabrication, logistics, and field service. Midweek, you’re on the factory floor validating progress against milestones, aligning POs to critical path tasks, and nudging vendors who are slipping. By Friday, you’re closing a change order, updating your P&L forecast, and prepping a clear status for internal leaders and the customer. It’s end‑to‑end ownership from handover through commissioning and closeout.

Role at a glance

  • We’re hiring 4 project leaders to run complex electromechanical equipment programs for large hydropower plants, from award to final close.
  • Two levels available: Senior Project Manager (midpoint $143K) and Project Manager (midpoint $112K); both roles are bonus-eligible.
  • What matters most: disciplined, structured project management—not prior hydro or software experience.
  • Core filters: large project scope, heavy manufacturing/industrial background, true schedule ownership, contract/commercial control, and steady career tenure.
  • Location: York, PA. Hybrid schedule with 3 days onsite and 2 remote. Relocation is welcomed.
  • Tooling: SAP and internal systems; you’ll be trained on our processes.
  • Hiring process: virtual interview followed by an onsite interview.

What you’ll own

  • Steer projects across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, transport, installation, commissioning, and closeout.
  • Full commercial accountability: set budgets, monitor actuals, and forecast profitability (P&L).
  • Interpret bids and contracts and ensure execution meets contractual obligations.
  • Build, maintain, and drive an achievable schedule; align POs with milestone needs.
  • Run change management, claims, and risk/opportunity actions with customers, subs, and suppliers.
  • Lead a cross-functional project team and hold vendors/subcontractors to commitments.
  • Maintain complete, accurate project documentation.
  • Partner with Sales/Account Managers on customer engagement.

Must-have qualifications

  • Track record managing large, complex programs (ideally $50M–$400M; ~ $10M contracts acceptable if handling several concurrently).
  • Background in heavy manufacturing or complex industrial projects (e.g., mining, oil & gas, heavy manufacturing).
  • Hands-on experience creating and maintaining detailed project schedules.
  • Strong commercial acumen: cost control, contract review/administration, and T&Cs.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously (the portfolio can be ~8).
  • Proven oversight of vendors and subcontractors with accountability for performance.
  • Based in York, PA or committed to relocate; available on site 3 days per week.

Preferred

  • Hydropower or broader power generation exposure.
  • Experience with SAP, ECTR, or Primavera.
  • Knowledge of casting, forging, welding, machining, and assembly processes.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings and BOMs.
  • Engineering degree (Mechanical, Controls, Chemical, or Civil).
  • Approx. 5+ years of tenure with a prior employer.

Not a fit if

  • You won’t relocate to York, PA or can’t commit to 3 days onsite.
  • You lack experience leading large or highly complex projects.
  • You’ve never owned or actively maintained a project schedule.
  • Your background is exclusively in software/IT/marketing projects without industrial or physical product exposure.

Profiles that stand out

  • PM or Senior PM from heavy manufacturing, mining, oil & gas, EPC, or capital equipment environments.
  • Owned both P&L and schedule end-to-end, including commercial/contract work.
  • Comfortable running several efforts in parallel with clear prioritization.
  • Holds subs and vendors accountable; has stories of recovering slipping timelines.
  • Demonstrates steady tenure and a methodical, systems-driven approach.
  • Local to York or has a concrete relocation plan.

Signals of concern

  • Frequent role changes or multiple short stints.
  • “Project Manager” in title only—no true budget or schedule ownership.
  • Purely software/IT/marketing project background.
  • Unable to describe project size or commercial terms handled.
  • Relied on others to build/maintain the schedule.
  • Unclear on relocation or onsite expectations.

How we assess resumes

  • Emphasis on project size, portfolio breadth, and industrial domain relevance.
  • No penalty for lacking hydro experience, degree, certifications, or SAP/Primavera.
  • Seek evidence of schedule ownership, P&L/cost control, contract administration, change orders, and claims.
  • Confirm management of vendors, subcontractors, and POs.
  • Note tenure patterns and overall career stability.
  • High-potential juniors with industrial project experience may be considered; a Senior PM may mentor.
  • Flag location for relocation dialogue—don’t reject for being non-local.
  • Two levels: Senior PM typically owns $50M–$400M and multiple concurrent efforts; PM may run ~ $10M contracts or take on a more junior scope.
  • Do not disqualify based on compensation expectations above midpoints; flag for recruiter review.

Topics we’ll dig into together

  • Scale, complexity, and volume of projects you’ve led.
  • Schedule construction and maintenance practices.
  • Cost control, contracts, change orders, and claims experience.
  • Vendor/subcontractor oversight.
  • Rationale for job changes.
  • Relocation to York and hybrid (3 days onsite) commitment.
  • Comp expectations (we discuss as a team—no automatic disqualifications).
