What a Night on D Shift Looks Like
You clock in energized at 6:00 PM for a 40-hour week on the D Shift: Wednesday through Saturday, 6 PM–6 AM (with Wednesday at 6 hours, Thursday–Saturday at 12 hours each). You’ll rotate from a high-voltage motor troubleshooting call to a precision repair on a hydraulic circuit—then jump to a PLC fault that’s keeping a packaging line from running. By sunrise, you’ve helped get critical equipment back online, documented work orders, and teed up both short- and long-term fixes.
Your Impact
- Diagnose and repair AC/DC electrical systems; interpret schematics and leverage test gear such as volt-ohm meters, amp meters, and oscilloscopes.
- Install, maintain, and troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems, control valves, and both centrifugal and positive displacement pumps.
- Work confidently around high-voltage (480V, 3-phase) motors and perform multi-craft repairs across mechanical and electrical domains.
- Apply strong PLC knowledge (troubleshooting, I/O, sensors) and contribute to preventative maintenance programs and work order tracking.
- Operate machine tools (lathes, mills) and perform fabrication/repair welding, including arc and Heliarc® processes.
- Respond urgently to maintenance calls, sometimes completing in-progress repairs to restore uptime.
- Inspect assets, create repair lists, and prioritize immediate versus long-range actions to maximize reliability and efficiency.
- Coach entry-level mechanics through complex diagnostics and safe work practices.
