Job Summary
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the financial operations of a manufacturing organization, including cost accounting, inventory analysis, and general ledger maintenance. This role ensures accurate financial reporting, compliance with accounting standards, and provides insights into production costs and operational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain general ledger entries and account reconciliations
- Support and help drive monthly close process, including account reconciliations and variance analysis
- Perform cost accounting functions, including tracking and analyzing manufacturing costs (labor, materials, overhead)
- Monitor and reconcile inventory accounts, including cycle counts and variance analysis
- Analyze production variances and provide recommendations for cost control and efficiency improvements
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes, especially related to manufacturing operations
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
- Assist with audits by providing documentation and explanations
- Prepare financial reports and management analysis
- Collaborate with operations and production teams to understand cost drivers
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 1–3+ years of accounting experience (manufacturing experience preferred)
- Knowledge of cost accounting and inventory management principles
- Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar)
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) strongly preferred
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data analysis)
- CPA or CPA candidate is a plus
