Industrial Equipment Design Engineer — Fluids, Controls and DFM

  • Indianapolis, IN
  • 90,000 - 100,000 USD Annually

Let’s build world-class operations together

Our production footprint is growing, and with it comes a stream of complex projects. We’re seeking an engineer who can blend mechanical design, fluid power expertise, and automation savvy to raise performance, efficiency, and reliability. You’ll own projects from concept through commissioning, using data to guide each decision and collaborating across disciplines to deliver safe, robust solutions.

Your impact

  • Architect and refine mechanical equipment for hydraulic, pneumatic, filtration, and conveyance applications.
  • Leverage Computational Fluid Dynamics to evaluate flow and thermal behavior, then tune designs accordingly.
  • Perform feasibility analyses, calculations, and system simulations to de-risk and enhance designs.
  • Produce CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and assembly specifications with a focus on DFM.
  • Diagnose and resolve mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and fluid-system issues on the shop floor.
  • Integrate mechanical systems with controls—partnering with electrical/PLC engineers to align automation and motion control.
  • Hold designs to industry standards, safety regulations, and company policies.
  • Communicate progress via technical reports, documentation, and stakeholder updates.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to select, qualify, and improve components for system upgrades.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 2+ years in mechanical equipment design, modification, or maintenance.

What you bring

  • Strong command of hydraulics, pneumatics, filtration, and conveyance systems.
  • CAD fluency (Fusion 360 or equivalent) for precision mechanical design.
  • Proven experience with CFD tools (ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, or similar).
  • Track record in machinery troubleshooting, process optimization, and integration.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and fabrication methods.
  • Knowledge of industrial automation, PLCs, and motion control.
  • Diagnostic ability to pinpoint and correct mechanical and fluid-system failures.
  • Background in heavy industrial, material handling, or processing industries.
  • FEA knowledge to complement CFD analysis.
  • Exposure to lean, Six Sigma, or reliability engineering.
  • Experience in weld design.
  • Hands-on PLC integration and control programming.
  • Organizational, time management, problem solving, and general software skills that support data-driven engineering.

Do you check these boxes?

  • PLC Troubleshooting Skills
  • Pneumatics Experience
  • Hydraulics Experience
  • CAD Software
  • Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • Pneumatics Troubleshooting
