Industrial Controls Electrician — Manufacturing Automation

About Novolex

Novolex is a leader in packaging innovation, choice, and sustainability, serving food, retail, health, and industrial markets. Our sustainability vision is anchored by three pillars—our products, our operations, and our people—guiding company-wide initiatives and ambitious goals.

A Day in the Life

You start your shift by reviewing the CMMS for open work orders and parts inventory notes. A packaging line needs a preventative maintenance check; you verify wiring and connections at 120/277/480V, inspect 3-phase distribution, and log your work. Mid-morning, you’re called to diagnose a line stoppage—an HMI fault points to a PLC input. You trace the 4–20 mA loop and positioning feedback, adjust a VFD parameter, and bring the equipment back online. After lunch, you bench-test a servo drive from a previous red-tag, rebuilding the unit and documenting results for repaired-parts inventory. You wrap up with a quick conduit run—bending, mounting boxes, pulling feeders, and terminating—and capture updates in the CMMS.

What You’ll Do

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and repair industrial electrical and electronic control systems in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Execute repairs, preventive maintenance, new installations, upgrades, and facility changes while maintaining detailed records and parts usage in the CMMS.
  • Diagnose hardware and software on production equipment, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, AC/DC drives, temperature controls, and computer-based systems.
  • Program and set up equipment and machinery to meet product specifications; make PLC/HMI/VFD changes or transfers as needed.
  • Assemble, disassemble, troubleshoot, and maintain manual and automated electro-mechanical systems using schematics, engineering drawings, and written or verbal instructions.
  • Run and bend conduit, mount boxes, pull feed wires, and perform terminations.
  • Perform bench diagnostics, rebuilds, and repairs for offline parts and machines; restock as repaired inventory or red-tag and notify the lead/supervisor to order new or send out for repair.
  • Work safely, accurately, quickly, and independently; perform well under pressure to maximize equipment uptime.
  • Contribute to creating, modifying, and revising manufacturing work instructions and process flow documentation.

What You Bring

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Maintenance Certification, or 3+ years as an industrial electrician with mechanical experience (industrial manufacturing preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical systems and wiring, including 120/277/480V and 3-phase power.
  • Hands-on PLC experience; Allen-Bradley and RSLogix exposure is a plus.
  • Background with VFDs, DC drives, and servo drives.
  • Process control skills: 4–20 mA loops, positioning feedback, and analog control.
  • Experience with temperature control systems.
  • In-depth background in industrial electrical systems maintenance.
  • Familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
