Position Overview
We are seeking a driven, hands-on Manufacturing Engineer II to support and advance high-precision manufacturing operations for critical aerospace applications. In this role, you will refine machining and manufacturing processes, collaborate cross-functionally to drive quality and shop-floor efficiency, and implement innovative engineering solutions.
If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, possess strong technical problem-solving skills, and are motivated by continuous improvement, lean principles, and tight-tolerance manufacturing, we want to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities
Process Engineering & Production Readiness
- Manufacturing Documentation: Develop, evaluate, and refine manufacturing execution plans, operational travelers/routers within the ERP system, and detailed shop-floor setup sheets.
- Production Readiness Reviews: Lead internal Production Readiness Review (PRR) meetings and ensure document control of customer specifications and engineering files prior to manufacturing release.
- Cost Estimating & Tooling Design: Estimate manufacturing costs, establish labor time standards, and utilize CAD software to design custom work-holding, fixtures, and tooling for production and quality teams.
- In-Process Drawings & Blueprints: Interpret complex customer blueprints and generate detailed 2D in-process drawings to support critical machining operations and inspection cadences.
Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Root Cause & Corrective Action (RCCA): Lead non-conformance reporting (NCR) investigations and cross-functional root-cause analysis meetings using formal quality tools (5-Why, Fishbone, Pareto) to establish effective corrective actions.
- In-Process Inspection Lead: Direct engineering reviews of in-process inspection data, compile metrics for stakeholders, and manage disposition steps.
- Scrap & Cost Reduction: Work closely with Quality and Operations to identify, analyze, and eliminate scrap, utilizing Lean Manufacturing principles to drive waste out of the production facility.
- Regulatory & Quality Standards: Assist in writing and updating policies, procedures, and work instructions to maintain strict compliance with aerospace and defense quality standards (AS9100 / ISO 9001 / ITAR).
- Engineering Change Control: Support the Engineering Change Request (ECR) process to maintain revision control across customer models, drawings, and internal ERP records.
Shop Floor Support & Stakeholder Communication
- Hands-On Floor Support: Provide direct technical guidance, setup instruction, and process troubleshooting to machinists and shop personnel on new machining procedures.
- Technical Liaison: Serve as a key technical point of contact with customers, suppliers, and internal departments regarding product specifications, inquiries, and technical issues.
Knowledge, Skills, & Competencies
- CAD/CAM Proficiency: Advanced experience using 3D parametric CAD modeling software for fixture design and hands-on familiarity with multi-axis CAM programming software.
- GD&T Expertise: Solid working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) principles (ASME Y14.5) and datum structure evaluation.
- Lean & Quality Tools: Practical mastery of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) tools and Lean manufacturing methods to build standardized work instructions and streamline workflows.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Strong project management, technical writing, and communication skills to collaborate effectively across Engineering, Quality, Operations, and external stakeholders.
