Dimensional Metrology Specialist — CMM & GD&T

Build measurement certainty at TOMZ (Berlin, CT)

Our mission is simple: every part we ship should measure exactly as intended. Join us to design, program, and maintain the automated inspection systems that make that promise real.

What you’ll do

  • Create, verify, and run automated CMM and metrology programs for first‑piece, in‑process, and final inspections.
  • Engineer fixtures, workholding, and functional gages that stabilize measurement and repeatability.
  • Define inspection criteria directly from drawings/specs using best practices and relevant standards.
  • Reduce measurement bias and confirm linearity, repeatability, and reproducibility; communicate Alpha/Beta risk.
  • Keep inspection assets healthy: qualify probes, perform routine cleaning, and check scales.
  • Integrate automatic data collection from metrology equipment into inspection plans and quality records.
  • Develop inspection methods, tool mapping, FAIs, and in‑process checks to support manufacturing throughput.
  • Update programs and documentation to reflect engineering changes.
  • Contribute to root‑cause investigations connected to automated inspection, tooling, and software.
  • Lead/support Gage R&R and other MSA activities; coordinate or perform calibration to maintain traceability.
  • Author work instructions and train operators on designated automated inspection equipment.
  • Take on related tasks as assigned to meet team goals.

What you bring

  • Expertise in GD&T per ASME Y14.5 and familiarity with ANSI/ASME and ISO standards.
  • Hands‑on use of precision measurement instruments including CMMs, Vision Systems, and Contracers.
  • Programming strength in Calypso (preferred) or PC‑DMIS/Open DMIS.
