Position Summary
The Mid-Level Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for owning and improving manufacturing processes within a precision machining environment. This role focuses on process stability, troubleshooting, and driving measurable improvements in quality, efficiency, and cost. The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation, is comfortable working independently, and collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams to support production and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing & Process Ownership
- Own and maintain assigned manufacturing processes, ensuring consistent performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost
- Develop, optimize, and document machining processes, including tooling, fixturing, and workholding
- Lead process validation activities and ensure production readiness for new and existing products
- Create and maintain work instructions, SOPs, and process documentation
- Support production with timely troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues
Production Support & Equipment
- Serve as the primary engineering resource for designated production areas
- Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance to improve equipment reliability and uptime
- Support equipment selection, installation, and process integration
- Monitor and improve key metrics such as OEE, scrap, and cycle time
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure processes meet AS9100, IATF 16949, ISO, and customer-specific requirements
- Support APQP, PFMEA, control plans, and PPAP activities as needed
- Lead and participate in root cause analysis (5-Why, Fishbone, 8D) for production and quality issues
- Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence
Continuous Improvement
- Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives with measurable results
- Analyze production data to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities
- Drive cost reduction, yield improvement, and cycle time reduction projects
- Promote Lean manufacturing principles and standardization across operations
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
- 3–5 years of experience in engineering in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of machining processes, process control, and production support
- Experience troubleshooting and improving manufacturing processes independently
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ERP/MRP system experience preferred
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and specifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in precision machining, automotive, aerospace, or high-reliability manufacturing
- Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, and control plans
- Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certification
- Experience supporting CNC machining environments and process optimization
