Civil Defense Litigation Attorney – Lancaster, PA
A confidential regional defense firm is looking to add a civil litigation attorney to its Lancaster, Pennsylvania office. This is a well-regarded shop with strong carrier relationships, a stable docket, and a reputation for developing attorneys who actually want to try cases — not just settle them.
The practice covers a broad range of insurance defense matters including auto and transportation liability, general premises claims, construction accidents, and professional liability. Matters range from routine single-plaintiff cases to more complex, multi-party disputes. You'll have the opportunity to do real litigation work — depositions, motion practice, and courtroom appearances — without being buried in a large-firm bureaucracy.
Responsibilities:
- Handle a steady defense docket from initial assignment through resolution, including trials and arbitrations as needed
- Research coverage and liability issues and produce high-quality written work product on tight turnarounds
- Take and defend depositions of plaintiffs, fact witnesses, medical providers, and expert witnesses
- Appear in Pennsylvania state court for hearings, argument, and trial proceedings
- Communicate clearly and regularly with carrier clients, adjusters, and claims personnel on strategy, reserves, and case developments
Qualifications:
- Pennsylvania bar admission in good standing (required); New Jersey bar is a plus
- 2–7 years of insurance defense, general civil defense, or litigation experience
- Comfort in the courtroom and willingness to try cases
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage a varied, active docket
- Experience working directly with insurance carriers preferred
