The Master Planner & Scheduler/ Buyer is responsible for developing and maintaining an accurate, up-to-date Production Schedule that supports customer orders, forecasts, and Kanban requirements while maximizing job profitability. In addition, this role manages the procurement of materials required for manufacturing, including items triggered by Kanban systems, ensuring timely availability of resources to meet production and delivery goals.
What You’ll Do:
Planning & Scheduling
- Generate the Master Production Schedule in alignment with the Sales & Operations Plan.
- Balance production and inventory levels to meet customer service goals, incorporating input from Sales.
- Reschedule shop floor activities as needed to meet lead-time requirements.
- Monitor and publish the Capacity Planning Report/Earned Hours; collaborate with Operations to resolve shop load issues.
- Provide accurate lead-times to Sales based on operational capabilities and capacity.
- Work with Sales and Operations Leadership to resolve scheduling conflicts for short lead-time requests.
- Perform capacity planning to ensure Master Schedule accuracy and compliance.
- Schedule and coordinate workflow within and between manufacturing departments based on customer orders, priorities, and resource availability (workers, parts, materials, equipment).
Purchasing & Material Management
- Purchase raw materials, components, and supplies required for manufacturing operations.
- Manage procurement activities triggered by Kanban systems to maintain inventory efficiency.
- Negotiate with suppliers to ensure competitive pricing, quality, and timely delivery.
- Monitor supplier performance and resolve issues related to delivery, quality, or lead times.
- Maintain accurate purchase records and ensure compliance with company policies and standards.
- Collaborate with Operations and Inventory teams to optimize material flow and reduce shortages or excess stock.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum 5 years of scheduling experience in a contract manufacturing (machining) environment.
- Experience in purchasing/procurement within a manufacturing setting.
- Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite (Access) and ERP systems; Epicor and/or Autosched experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including presentation and negotiation abilities.
- Ability to remain calm and courteous under pressure while working collaboratively in a team environment.
- APICS certification preferred.
