Product Engineer (Mid-Level)

About the Role

We're a pre-seed AI-powered HR tech startup based in San Francisco, building products that match talent with startup opportunities through intelligent, conversational experiences. As a Mid-Level Product Engineer, you'll work directly alongside founders, product, and design to own features end-to-end — from scoping through production — and help shape the technical direction of a fast-moving, early-stage product. If you thrive with high ownership, minimal process, and meaningful technical challenges at the intersection of AI and product, this role is for you.

What You'll Do

  • Own end-to-end product features: scoping requirements, designing solutions, and deploying to production.
  • Design APIs and data models; implement both frontend and backend code across the full stack.
  • Ship user-facing experiences that balance usability and performance, iterating based on feedback and metrics.
  • Integrate AI/LLM capabilities into core product flows, making intelligence practical and reliable for end users.
  • Design and implement scalable backend services, data schemas, and operational tooling (CI/CD, monitoring, testing).
  • Collaborate closely with founders, product, and design to prioritize work and define success metrics.
  • Participate in architecture and roadmap discussions, making pragmatic tradeoffs appropriate for early-stage growth.

What We're Looking For

Must-haves:

  • 2–8 years of software engineering experience with a track record of shipping user-facing products.
  • Strong full-stack skills: TypeScript and React / Next.js on the frontend; Python or Node.js on the backend.
  • Experience with relational databases (PostgreSQL) and cloud platforms (AWS or GCP).
  • Practical experience integrating LLMs or AI services into production applications (engineering focus, not research).
  • Comfort operating in small teams with limited process and high ambiguity; ability to move fluidly between frontend, backend, and DevOps tasks.
  • Demonstrated product sense — able to translate user problems into practical, measurable solutions.

Nice-to-haves:

  • Experience building multi-tenant or enterprise-ready systems.
  • Familiarity with API design, real-time systems, and scaling high-throughput applications.
  • Experience with AI-assisted development workflows (e.g., Cursor or similar tools).
  • Background in regulated industries (healthcare, fintech, legal) or building complex internal tools.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary: $150,000 – $300,000 per year (USD)
  • Early-stage equity commensurate with experience and stage
  • Visa sponsorship: Not available
