Plaintiff's Attorney (Asbestos/Mesothelioma) - Emeryville, CA

L&W Recruiting, on behalf of a nationally resourced plaintiff‑side law firm, seeks a Plaintiff's Attorney to join its Emeryville, CA (San Francisco Bay Area) office to manage and litigate asbestos and mesothelioma matters. The role emphasizes plaintiff‑side toxic‑tort and personal‑injury advocacy, thorough case development, coordination with medical and industry experts, and trial readiness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Manage a caseload of asbestos/mesothelioma and related plaintiff personal injury matters from intake through resolution, including mass‑tort and individual files.
  • Conduct factual and legal investigation: review medical records, employment and exposure histories, product identification, and other evidence relevant to toxic‑tort claims.
  • Draft pleadings, complaints, answers, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, settlement documents, and other court filings in state and federal courts.
  • Conduct and defend depositions; prepare and coordinate lay witnesses, percipient witnesses, and retained experts for testimony and trial.
  • Handle hearings, case management conferences, mediations, and trial preparation; appear in court as required.
  • Develop litigation strategy, perform legal research, evaluate liability and damages, and participate in settlement negotiations.
  • Coordinate with co‑counsel, retained experts, medical providers, and investigative resources to advance case development and client outcomes.
  • Maintain organized case files, calendaring, and compliance with procedural and jurisdictional deadlines; utilize e‑filing and case/document management systems as needed.
  • Communicate professionally and compassionately with clients and families; mentor and train junior attorneys or staff where appropriate.

Required qualifications:

  • Active license to practice law in California.
  • Preferably a minimum of two (2) years of litigation experience; candidates with plaintiff‑side personal injury, product liability, medical malpractice, premises liability, construction defect, or related civil litigation experience will be considered.
  • Demonstrated litigation skills, including drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, taking and defending depositions, and courtroom exposure.
  • Ability to manage a high‑volume caseload while maintaining attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and exercising sound case‑management judgment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and professional client‑management abilities.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Direct experience in asbestos and mesothelioma litigation or other toxic‑tort practice.
  • Trial experience or substantial courtroom exposure in plaintiff‑side matters.
  • Experience coordinating medical and industry experts and managing complex medical and exposure evidence.
  • Familiarity with e‑filing systems, case/document management platforms, and litigation support tools.
  • Demonstrated commitment to client advocacy and professional development within a collaborative practice.
