Lead Electrical Reliability in a 24/7 Steel Environment
TekPro is representing a renowned metals manufacturer in Northwest Indiana seeking a hands-on leader to own electrical maintenance and reliability across high-throughput production lines. You’ll guide crews in a continuous, large-scale operation spanning steel production, casting, and finishing—where every decision you make keeps the mill moving.
A day in the role
- Start with a safety huddle and a quick review of overnight alarms, open work orders, and PM compliance.
- Walk the line with operations, prioritizing critical repairs to reduce downtime across melting, casting, and finishing.
- Jump in where needed—diagnose PLC anomalies, trace a drive fault, or evaluate a high-voltage feeder issue.
- Coordinate scheduled maintenance windows, ensuring resources, permits, and lockout/tagout are in place.
- Coach electricians and apprentices, reinforcing standards, documentation, and troubleshooting methods.
- Close the loop with mechanical and reliability teams to align on production goals and upcoming outages.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Directing electrical maintenance crews during assigned shifts in a high-volume industrial setting.
- Ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient maintenance, repair, and operation of plant electrical assets.
- Coordinating and prioritizing work to minimize downtime and protect throughput.
- Troubleshooting PLCs, motors, drives, and both high- and low-voltage systems.
- Upholding electrical codes, plant safety standards, and preventive maintenance programs.
- Partnering with operations, mechanical, and reliability teams to hit production targets.
- Training, mentoring, and developing electricians and apprentices.
What you bring
- 5+ years in industrial maintenance or electrical roles, ideally in steel, foundry, power, or heavy manufacturing.
- Deep knowledge of motors, drives, PLC platforms, and high-voltage distribution.
- Proven experience supervising or leading technical teams.
- Strong troubleshooting acumen, clear communication, and solid problem-solving.
- Uncompromising commitment to safety and continuous improvement.
Why this is a great move
