Industrial SCADA and Automation Controls Engineer

Own complex controls. Elevate performance. Repeat.

Do you thrive on diagnosing the undiagnosable? Can you translate KPIs into code changes and reliability wins? Join us to optimize and scale modern automation—conveyors, sortation, PLCs, scanners, vision, print‑and‑apply, and SCADA—across mission‑critical sites.

Why this role

  • Impact you can measure: your improvements unlock uptime, throughput, and safety gains.
  • Real autonomy: scope solutions, ship changes, and see results in production.
  • End‑to‑end ownership: from concept through network implementation.

What you’ll tackle

  • Safety leadership: adhere to and promote all codes, regulations, and internal safety procedures.
  • Controls engineering: troubleshoot and refine PLC/PC control logic on Allen‑Bradley ControlLogix/CompactLogix using RSLogix 5000.
  • Rapid response: act as first‑level escalation for MHE controls—on‑site, remote, and after hours; coordinate emergency support.
  • System integrity: inspect assets to confirm operation within design limits and client specifications.
  • Project oversight: define scope, initiate work requests, schedule, and inspect contractor deliverables (proprietary systems, licensed installs, upgrades, specialty maintenance).
  • Reliability by design: craft process improvements and deploy across the network.
  • Industrial networks: monitor/troubleshoot Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus, AS‑i; support motor control systems, servo drives, VFDs, and electrical distribution.
  • Data‑driven fixes: analyze MHE metrics; partner with site teams to remove electrical bottlenecks.
  • Stakeholder comms: keep leadership, operations, and maintenance aligned on issues, timelines, and production impacts.
  • Root cause rigor: facilitate failure reviews; recommend corrective actions or retraining.
  • Controls assessments: audit and uplift equipment reliability.
  • Collaboration: foster strong relationships with the Client and Operations Maintenance teams.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Must‑have background

  • Bachelor’s preferred with 2–5 years relevant experience; equivalent education/experience considered.
  • Experience across at least two engineering design cycles (specification, selection, programming).
  • 2+ years with PLC programming, robotics controls/components, and SCADA monitoring/control.
  • Schedule flexibility for weekends, nights, holidays, and varied work areas.
  • Independent problem solver with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to meet physical demands: stooping, standing, walking, climbing stairs/ladders, lifting/carrying 50+ lbs.
  • Comfort guiding sensitive/complex exchanges, setting expectations, and resolving issues.

Nice to have

  • 2+ years apprenticeship or equivalent in control systems troubleshooting/programming.
  • Exposure to multiple conveyor and sortation technologies.
  • Robotic maintenance experience.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong organization and an inquisitive, analytical approach.
  • Advanced math (percentages, fractions, financial‑related calculations).

Tools of the trade

  • PLC programming and SCADA proficiency.
  • Allen‑Bradley PLCs.
