Why this role
Join as the subject-matter expert who ensures induction hardening processes are capable, compliant, and continuously improving. Your work safeguards metallurgical integrity and production reliability while shaping best practices against GKN Standards.
What you’ll own
- Print and specification fluency: read drawings, understand metallurgical requirements, and turn metallurgical data into practical solutions—including support for run-at-risk authorization.
- Hands-on problem solving: diagnose equipment/tooling issues and drive cross-functional fixes with technicians, the coil shop, and maintenance.
- Testing acumen: use metallurgical testing methods to verify process outcomes.
- Supplier collaboration: manage subcontractor efforts for manufacturing, repair, and technical initiatives.
- People development: train and evaluate technical leads for IH; achieve Level II MPI certification and act as a trainer/auditor.
- Standards alignment: partner with Engineering to close gaps to GKN Standards for all IH processes.
- Launch support: contribute to new programs, PPAP, and development activities.
- Process control: support fault logic, debugging, run-off, development, and optimization for IH and equipment-related processes.
- Process design: define IH and tempering approaches; recommend coil designs and parameters compliant with GKN Standards.
- Systems discipline: develop and sustain systems that meet TS-16949, CQI-9, TMC Checklist, and GKN Standards.
- Safety focus: understand and apply safety codes relevant to IH.
What you bring
