Quality Technician – Automotive Manufacturing

Position Summary

The Quality Technician is responsible for ensuring that sheet metal components and assemblies meet customer specifications, industry standards, and internal quality requirements. This role supports production by performing inspections, audits, and testing while working closely with manufacturing and engineering teams to maintain high-quality automotive products.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform in-process and final inspections of sheet metal parts, including stamped and formed components
  • Use precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and CMM equipment
  • Interpret blueprints, GD&T, and customer specifications to verify product compliance
  • Conduct first article inspections (FAI) and document results
  • Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to quality standards and control plans
  • Identify defects and non-conformances; initiate corrective actions and containment activities
  • Maintain accurate inspection records, reports, and quality documentation
  • Assist in root cause analysis using tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, and SPC data
  • Support internal and external audits (IATF 16949, ISO 9001, customer audits)
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and maintenance teams to improve quality and reduce scrap

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical certification or associate degree preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in automotive manufacturing or sheet metal fabrication
  • Strong understanding of metal stamping processes, tooling, and materials
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
  • Experience with quality systems such as IATF 16949 or ISO standards
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and inspection techniques
  • Proficiency with basic computer systems (Excel, quality software, ERP systems)
