Shape precision parts on world-class lathes in Greenwood, IN
As a Precision CNC Turning Technician, you’ll turn complex prints into finished parts. Picture your day: you arrive at our temperature-controlled shop, review the day’s blueprints and operation sheets, prep fixtures and cutting tools, and dial in the machine so every feature lands exactly on spec.
A day in the life
- Study blueprints, planning sheets, sketches, and technical data to map tooling, setup, control settings, machining methods, and sequences.
- Prepare and verify fixtures and tooling meet quality standards for sizes, depths, angles, and other specifications.
- Mount, align, and secure tooling, attachments, and workpieces; assemble cutting tools in holders and load toolholders into machine magazines.
- Load control media (tape, card, disk) into the controller or retrieve preprogrammed instructions from the database.
- Calculate and set controls to position the spindle and regulate cutting depth, speed, feed, and coolant flow.
- Run prove-outs and perform manual programming during setup when approved by your Supervisor.
- Start the machine, monitor displays, and watch the cut to catch malfunctions early.
- Pause the cycle to change tools and perform in-process inspections; measure parts to confirm blueprint conformance.
- Adjust offsets or manually tweak controls to correct malfunctions or out-of-tolerance conditions.
- Operate manually when needed to complete non-automated steps or when automatic programming is faulty.
- Work with your Supervisor or programming team to resolve control media errors.
- Clean the machine, tooling, and parts; complete routine maintenance.
- Follow company policies and safety procedures; wear required PPE at all times.
- Help train new team members when needed.
What you bring
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ year of CNC lathe operation experience and/or training.
- Ability to follow written, oral, or diagrammed instructions.
- Solid math skills with fractions, decimals, whole numbers, and units of measure.
- Fluent in reading/understanding blueprints and operation sheets to determine setups and operations.
- Experienced in setting up and running CNC machinery and entering/maintaining data in the Traverse Manufacturing System.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Self-starter, fast learner, reliable, team-focused, able to plan and execute across teams, and an effective communicator.
