QA Inspector

Job Summary:

The QA Inspector is responsible for performing inspections to ensure product conformance with safety, quality, and quantity standards set by Timken Aurora Bearing Company. This role requires a keen eye for detail and adherence to quality control procedures during the receiving process of component parts and final assembly inspection process.

Essential Responsibilities & Knowledge:

  • Inspection & Safety: Perform all assigned duties in a safe and efficient manner, prioritizing quality. Follow company and departmental procedures, ensuring regular attendance, punctuality, and compliance with safety protocols. Maintain a clean and orderly work area and promptly report any unusual conditions to the Lead Person or Supervisor.

  • Measuring & Documenting: Set up and operate gauges for inspections. Document and file inspection records accurately. Report any anomalies found during the inspection process to the Lead Person or Supervisor.

  • Blueprint Reading: Read and interpret blueprints to verify product conformance to specifications.

  • Supplier Certifications: Review and approve certifications from suppliers to ensure they meet applicable requirements.

  • Receiving Inspection: Perform receiving inspections for component parts and final assemblies.

  • Returned Goods Analysis: Conduct analysis of returned goods to assess quality or defects.

  • Master Gage Inspection: Inspect and approve master gages for manufacturing processes.

  • Microscopic Analysis: Utilize microscopic equipment to analyze product details for conformance.

  • Weighing & Counting: Use electronic scales to verify part counts and ensure accuracy during inspections.

  • Mounting, Sectioning, Polishing: Perform these tasks as part of the inspection process, including measurements taken with a photomicroscope.

  • Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI): Perform MPI testing to detect surface and subsurface discontinuities in materials.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Mathematical Skills: Proficiency in basic arithmetic, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, decimals, and metric conversions.

  • Blueprint Interpretation: Ability to read and understand blueprints to ensure accurate product conformance.

  • Inspection Equipment: Proficient in using inspection tools and equipment including micrometers, calipers, bore plugs, thread plugs, air gauges, optical comparators, hardness testers, and more.

Machines, Tools, Equipment, & Software:

  • Inspection Equipment: Micrometers, calipers, bore plugs, thread plugs, thread rings, air gauges, Sunnen gauges, supermic, optical comparator, hardness tester, surface analyzer, plating thickness equipment, eddy current, radial and axial clearance gauges, CMM machine.

  • Miscellaneous Equipment: Magnaflux booth, calculator, weigh scale, basic hand tools, two-wheel hand dolly, die cart/lifter, pallet lifter.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in quality inspection, preferably in a non-food related manufacturing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to handle complex inspection tasks.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to operate various inspection tools and equipment as listed above.
