Utility-Scale Solar Commissioning Lead

Utility-Scale Solar Commissioning Lead

Location: Remote (United States), with occasional travel—up to 20%—to project sites nationwide and to our client’s headquarters in Juno Beach, Florida.

Contract: 1-year assignment (W-2). Reports to the Senior Project Manager.

A day in this role

Sunrise finds you reviewing overnight data streams from a new PV site: inverter outputs, tracker alignment, substation status, and SCADA points all flowing into your dashboard. By mid-morning, you’re on a call with the SCADA Integrator and the Execution Commissioning Project Manager, dialing in the commissioning schedule tied to mechanical completion. After lunch, you coordinate test energy forecasts and AVR/AGC notifications with the control center and external partners ahead of PPA, GIA, and ISO testing. In the afternoon, you act as the Owner’s representative during a startup milestone—verifying HMI accuracy, supporting CEWIS Critical Point Checkout with ROCC alarm checks/PGD, and flagging any performance deficiencies before they become issues. You close the day by documenting progress and contractor/vendor commissioning activities for executive-ready status reporting.

What you’ll take on

  • Lead performance analytics of PV plant systems, including inverters, trackers, substations, and SCADA/control systems.
  • Prepare assets for PPA, GIA, and ISO testing and coordinate startup readiness.
  • Own test energy forecasting and AVR/AGC notifications with customers, the control center, and external stakeholders.
  • Support IT and SCADA teams with functional point checks and data validation.
  • Build and maintain a commissioning schedule aligned to mechanical completion with the SCADA Integrator and Execution Commissioning Project Manager.
  • Verify SCADA HMI functionality and data accuracy alongside the SCADA Integrator and Commissioning Manager.
  • Support CEWIS Critical Point Checkout, including ROCC alarm checks/PGD.
  • Continuously review performance data to identify and resolve deficiencies.
  • Serve as the Owner’s representative to ensure compliance, startup execution, commissioning, and testing—overseeing contractor and vendor activities and reporting status.

What you bring

  • Engineering degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5+ years of experience with utility-scale solar power systems.

Helpful background

  • Professional or graduate-level work focused on utility PV systems.
  • Hands-on experience with SCADA systems for industrial facilities or processes.
  • 2+ years collaborating with grid entities (Transmission Operators, Independent System Operators, Balancing Authorities).
