Location: Saint Paul, MN | Department: Operations | Type: Full-time | Pay: $35 – $45/hr

Role Snapshot

Champion safe, efficient launch of production runs on large stamping presses. Drive first-pass yield, on-time delivery, and continuous improvement while coaching junior set-up talent.

Primary Impact Areas

  • Precision Set-Ups: Configure large presses and align complex tooling—draws, forms, progressive dies—to meet exact specs.
  • Readiness: Stage materials, verify routings, and confirm work instructions so jobs start without delay.
  • Quality at Source: Perform first-article verification; use calipers and micrometers to validate dimensions and features; label and track materials accurately.
  • Troubleshooting: Lead root-cause analysis for die/press issues; coordinate corrective actions with toolroom and maintenance.
  • Standards & Documentation: Capture detailed set-up instructions and accurately enter production/quality data into the company system.
  • Mentorship: Train and guide Level I and II set-up operators on best practices, safety, and problem-solving.
  • Flow & Prioritization: Use dispatch displays to set priorities and plan the next changeover.
  • Housekeeping & Care: Perform routine mechanical upkeep and maintain an organized, safe work area.

Collaboration

Partner closely with production, toolroom, and maintenance to balance throughput, tooling life, and quality.

Qualifications

  • Expert-level knowledge of press set-ups and tooling for metal stamping (including progressive dies).
  • Ability to interpret complex blueprints, job routings, and instructions.
  • Proven independent troubleshooting and strong inspection skills.
  • Effective communicator; excels at time management and team alignment.
  • Committed to safety, quality, and continuous improvement; enjoys mentoring.

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in metal fabrication or related fields.

Physical Demands

  • Effective vision and hearing; includes close/distance/peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout shift.
  • Regular hand use for handling, reaching, and operating equipment.
  • Ability to sustain repetitive tasks and focus for long periods.
  • Lift up to 25 lbs regularly; up to 50 lbs occasionally.
