Precision CNC Laser Machining Specialist

  • Spartanburg, SC

Own the Cut. Shape the Outcome.

Step into a role where precision and problem-solving define your day. As a Precision CNC Laser Machining Specialist, you’ll set up, run, and program CNC and fiber and/or CO2 laser cutting equipment to deliver tight-tolerance parts. You’ll also design custom jigs and fixtures that make production faster and more repeatable. If you’ve dabbled in robotic programming and integration, that’s a strong advantage you can put to work here.

A Day in the Life

You begin by reviewing drawings, blueprints, and CAD files to confirm specs. Next, you’ll set up CNC and laser systems, dialing in parameters based on material and thickness. Throughout the shift, you iterate on G-code and CAD/CAM toolpaths (Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam) to reduce waste and boost throughput. When a job needs extra stability, you design a quick-change fixture or jig, collaborating with engineering and production to meet safety and performance standards. Quality checks with calipers, micrometers, and gauges keep every dimension and finish on target. You document settings, programs, and maintenance in detail, capturing opportunities for continuous improvement. When automation opportunities arise, you assist with robotic programming and integration for handling or secondary ops—accelerating workflow while reducing manual effort.

What You’ll Handle

  • Set up and operate CNC and laser cutting machines (fiber and/or CO2) to produce high-precision components.
  • Interpret and work from technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD files.
  • Perform routine maintenance and ensure machines are operating safely and efficiently.
  • Develop and optimize CNC and laser cutting manual programs using G codes and/or CAD/CAM software (e.g., Fusion 360, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Mastercam).
  • Adjust cutting parameters based on material type and thickness to ensure quality and minimize waste.
  • Design and manage fabrication of custom holding tools, jigs, and fixtures to support production and reduce setup time.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to ensure that tooling meets safety and performance standards.
  • Assist in the programming and integration of robotic systems for automation of material handling or secondary operations (asset).
  • Support automation initiatives to improve workflow and reduce manual labor.
  • Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Ensure all components meet dimensional and surface finish specifications.
  • Maintain accurate records of machine settings, programs, and maintenance activities.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and provide feedback on process enhancements.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; technical diploma or associate degree in machining, manufacturing, or mechatronics preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience operating and programming CNC and laser cutting machines.
  • Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and G-code programming.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical drawings, tolerances, and materials.
  • Experience in designing and fabricating custom tooling and fixtures.
  • Familiarity with robotic systems (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA) is a plus.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

  • Manufacturing floor environment with exposure to machinery, noise, natural elements, and metalworking processes.
  • Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required.
