2nd Shift Production Manager – Food Manufacturing

We are recruiting a 2nd Shift Production Manager for a food manufacturer in Melrose Park, IL. This person will lead approximately 20 production employees and be responsible for safety, quality, production performance, staffing, and day-to-day shift operations.
This is a good opportunity for someone with food manufacturing leadership experience who enjoys being involved in the operation, developing employees, and keeping production running efficiently.
Schedule
- Monday–Thursday: Approximately 3:30 PM–12:30 AM
- Friday: Typically a shorter shift
- On-site in Melrose Park, IL
What You'll Be Responsible For
- Lead, coach, and manage approximately 20 production employees
- Coordinate daily production activities to meet schedule, quality, and output requirements
- Manage staffing, work assignments, workflow, and production priorities
- Monitor production performance, downtime, labor utilization, waste, and efficiency
- Address equipment, process, material, and production issues that affect the shift
- Partner with Quality, Maintenance, Sanitation, and Warehouse
- Ensure compliance with GMPs, food safety, sanitation, quality, and safety procedures
- Train employees on SOPs, production standards, safety, and operating procedures
- Manage employee performance, attendance, accountability, and development
- Complete required production and shift documentation
- Identify opportunities to reduce downtime and waste and improve productivity and overall shift performance
What We're Looking For
- Food production or food manufacturing experience is required
- Production leadership experience as a Production Manager, Production Supervisor, Shift Manager, Manufacturing Supervisor, or similar
- Experience directly managing approximately 20 employees or more
- Bilingual English/Spanish with the ability to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking production employees
- U.S. Citizen or fully executed Green Card holder
- Experience managing production schedules, staffing, workflow, and daily priorities
- Knowledge of GMPs, food safety, sanitation, quality, and workplace safety requirements
- Ability to address employee performance and hold teams accountable for safety, quality, and production expectations
- Comfortable working the required 2nd-shift schedule
Technical & Manufacturing Skills
Experience with the following is valuable:
- Food manufacturing / food processing operations
- GMPs, HACCP, preventive food safety controls, sanitation, and allergen controls
- Production scheduling and workflow management
- Production reporting and documentation
- Labor and staffing management
- Downtime, efficiency, waste, scrap, and yield tracking
- Root-cause problem solving and corrective actions
- Continuous improvement / Lean manufacturing
- Equipment and process troubleshooting
- SOPs and standardized work
- OSHA-related manufacturing safety practices
- ERP or production-management systems
- Microsoft Excel and production data analysis
Experience in dairy, cheese, refrigerated foods, meat, bakery, beverage, prepared foods, or other high-volume food manufacturing environments would translate well to this position.
