Crane Commissioning & Diagnostics Technician

Step into a Day on the Test Pad

You begin your shift under the guidance of a Production Supervisor, teaming up with seasoned Senior and Journey Test Operators. With a laptop in hand, you connect to a Manitowoc crane, download programs, set parameters, and clear error codes. As the day progresses, you move from hands-on testing to studying load charts, test papers, and log books, steadily building mastery of crane and rigging symbols and signals. Throughout it all, you support continuous improvement programs such as Lean, 5S, and TPR.

What You’ll Do

  • Use a laptop to download programs, set parameters, and delete error codes on crane systems.
  • Shadow and learn from Senior and Journey Test Operators to become proficient with test documents (load charts, load test paperwork, and log book requirements) per Company policy.
  • Demonstrate understanding of crane and rigging symbols and hand signals.
  • Complete required software training for a wide range of Manitowoc Crane products.
  • Finish all safety training within timelines defined by applicable regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervision.

What You Bring

  • Ability to read tape measures and other measuring devices.
  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Solid arithmetic skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals).
  • Familiarity with crane functions and safe operating practices.
  • Willingness to obtain CCO Certification after placement in the Test Operator role as business conditions allow for training.

Education & Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1 year of heavy equipment operating experience preferred.

  • Maintain housekeeping and 5S standards in your area.
  • Work safely and wear required PPE per Company policy.
  • Follow job-specific and facility-wide safety and health procedures and rules.
  • Actively participate in safety and health training and demonstrate competency.
  • Raise safety concerns, report unsafe acts, and offer suggestions—or correct what you safely can.
  • Those with CDL’s are required to have an annual physical.

This position will be required to work outside at least 80% of the time, in various weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use tools or controls. The employee is frequently required to stand, reach, climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. There is frequent lifting and/or moving of up to 50 pounds. Incumbent must be willing to work at various heights.

Preferred Qualification

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
