Steel Rolling Mill Operator

A day in this role

You arrive for your rotating shift, touch base with the crew, and begin with a quick sweep of your station—housekeeping here isn’t just neat, it’s safety. You inspect the rolling mill, check fluids, verify guards and sensors, and set up measuring devices—tapes, micrometers, and calipers—so you can spot quality deviations fast. As the line starts, you monitor temperatures and speeds, make precise adjustments, and keep a sharp eye on surface finish and dimensions. When something looks off, you troubleshoot root causes, handle routine fixes without waiting on maintenance, and get the process back on track.

What you’ll tackle

• Operate and care for rolling mill equipment to meet production and quality targets
• Continuously monitor the rolling process, making adjustments to maintain specs
• Perform minor routine maintenance and repairs without maintenance support
• Apply strong troubleshooting and problem-solving to resolve issues quickly
• Own housekeeping in and around the immediate work area
• Ensure top-tier quality control on every run

• Ability to work a rotating schedule, including weekends and holidays
• Professionalism: respectful, responsible, dependable
• Comfort working in an industrial environment with variable temperatures
• Team-first mindset in a fast-paced setting; strong work ethic and attention to detail
• Skill using measuring tools (tapes, micrometers, inside/outside calipers, etc.)
• Reliable attendance, timely completion of work, and flexibility to meet business needs
• At least 1 year of rolling mill or related manufacturing experience

Education

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience
