PLC Controls Specialist

Provide technical expertise for the installation, configuration, programming, troubleshooting and preventive maintenance of programmable logic controllers (PLCs), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), servo systems and related control equipment in a manufacturing environment.

Schedule and compensation: Ability to work 2nd or 3rd shift. Standard shifts are 8 hours; schedule may include overtime and occasional weekend work. Overtime is paid at 1.5x after 40 hours and double time after 48 hours. Additional compensation elements include 10 paid holidays, PTO available upon start, and performance-based raises.

Key responsibilities:

  • Install, configure and troubleshoot sensors and discrete devices including photoeyes, proximity switches and limit switches, and associated control wiring.
  • Program, modify and troubleshoot PLC logic (including ladder logic) and HMI graphics/interfaces.
  • Provide troubleshooting and maintenance for analog and digital controls, 480V three-phase power distribution, motors, variable frequency drives (VFDs), servo drives and soft starters.
  • Maintain and diagnose position feedback devices including encoders and load cells.
  • Configure and diagnose communication protocols and interfaces, including Profibus, serial communications and industrial Ethernet.
  • Interpret and use electrical schematics to troubleshoot equipment faults and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and diagnostics on Laser Guided Vehicles (LGVs), conveyors and production/packaging equipment.
  • Document work, report status and coordinate repairs with maintenance and production personnel as required.

Required qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience working with programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  • Experience with servo systems.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience troubleshooting and maintaining packaging equipment in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance systems (CMMS).
  • Familiarity with electrical encoders, servomotors and amplifiers.
  • Experience programming PLCs and configuring HMIs.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing safety procedures (lockout/tagout, confined space, PPE).
  • Trade school, military technical training, or journeyman background.
  • One year or more of PLC troubleshooting experience (preferred).

Working conditions: Duties are primarily performed onsite in manufacturing/production areas and require the ability to work around machinery and electrical systems.
