Associate Attorney -- Philadelphia, PA

L&W Recruiting, on behalf of a well‑established Mid‑Atlantic law firm, seeks an experienced Insurance Defense Attorney to join the firm’s Litigation Defense and Business Law practice in Philadelphia, PA. The successful candidate will independently manage a full docket of defense matters while contributing to a collaborative team and pursuing a clear path to partnership.

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage a full caseload of insurance defense matters from intake through resolution, including investigation, discovery, motion practice, and trial preparation.
  • Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery requests and responses, and other court filings with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Conduct and defend depositions; prepare witnesses; and handle hearings, mediations, case management conferences, and court appearances as required.
  • Develop and implement litigation strategy; evaluate exposure and settlement options; coordinate with insurers, co‑counsel, and outside vendors.
  • Maintain organized case files, calendars, and adherence to procedural deadlines and court rules.
  • Communicate professionally and regularly with clients, claims personnel, opposing counsel, and court staff.
  • Mentor junior attorneys and paralegals and collaborate with colleagues to support firm objectives and business development.

Required qualifications:

  • 2–6+ years of insurance defense litigation experience.
  • Active license to practice law in Pennsylvania.
  • Proven litigation skills, including motion practice, deposition experience, and courtroom exposure.
  • Ability to manage a docket independently while contributing to a team‑oriented practice.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, organizational ability, and client‑management skills.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with complex coverage issues, litigation management, or significant trial practice within insurance defense.
  • Familiarity with e‑filing systems, case management and document management platforms.
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development and progression toward partnership.
